When 36% is a landslide, and a 4% increase in vote share gives you 200 more seats (and twice as many as last time), something is fucked with your electoral system. And then the media establishment paints this is _voters_ being volatile.
The UK needs proportional representation.

Agree re Singapore's housing model.
I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree on the Bishop plan.

Probably I spent too many years living in Vienna seeing how they did housing to see Bishop's rules-free, for-profit, developer-led housing as solution to NZ's housing problems. If he was really serious he would, at a minimum, have expanded Kainga Ora's builds & LGWM, Instead, he closed them down.

We can have a much, much better vision than that and still have more housing - fit for living.

Brown has already directed Waka Kotahi to end funding for local councils' walking & cycling projects & with Bishop's "We will require greater density around strategic transport corridors not just rapid transit" - I don't trust them, I'd love to be wrong.

A shack is affordable. Sorry, there are too many hooks in the annoucement and lack of consistency with the transport plan & rejection of walkable cities for me not to see a 'leaky homes'-type disaster in 10 years and some horrible, unhealthy environments for low-income people in the meantime.

Yes, well-built, healthy homes & spaces, and fast! I'm sure a nimby would agree. They need to be convinced density can be done well - better even that the suburban sprawl.
As for density AKL - 2400/kmĀ²
compare Vienna - 4,000/kmĀ²
This govt won't make a home/transport/spaces plan for healthy living.

Nimby? I've lived in apartments for 20 years. Don't drive a car. Use PT. Love that I can walk to work & shops. I also know I need to breathe out of the traffic and city hussle. Cities need spaces for people to meet-up that aren't tied to commerce.
Close & green some roads. What would Simeon say?

1. Yay for mixed use.
2. If the apartments are small, the open spaces need to be significant and easily accessible. I don't trust NZ councils and this govt to ensure intensification without planning rules for good living.
We'll intensify on the cheap - crushed people with nowhere to go.
