For those (and there are few of them on BlueSky) who insist "institutional racism" is not a thing in America in 2024, I give you the Goon Squad, which ran roughshod over part of Mississippi for years. They tortured & framed African-Americans with impunity for years.
Mississippi tax dollars at work.
Still can't believe it *only* fell apart because in one of their horrific home invasion torture sessions (literally their goal was to drive out two black men who dared to live in a white neighborhood - in 2023!) the intended "mock execution" went just a bit too far, the victim was shot in the mouth.
Mississippi and Alabama are engaged in a macabre contest to see which can demonstrate the least regard for basic humanity. I have to admit, they're both great competitors.
Rankin County MS (where these Deputies were part of the Sheriff's Dept) is just outside Jackson (the capitol). The population is about 157k, 4th largest county in MS. It is about 71% white (non-hispanic), 20% African-American with smatterings of others.
Basically, white supremacy on display.
the article actually says that they mostly targeted white people. this sucks, this is the carceral state run hog wild with impunity, and that’s related, but there are better examples of institutional racism.
I agree completely with your point, but this article does not back it up. It is however more proof (as if we need it) that ACAB and abolishment is the only solution.
Considering that the earliest mandate of police were slave patrols it’s incomprehensible to me that ppl do not see the institutional racism. What these reprobates did is inhuman and evil. Their racism may be “understood “ in prison, but, as cops, they’re about to see the other side of evil.
Why not examine case by case instead of blaming everyone for being a racist? Most people are color blind, most people love their fellow humans and don’t see color. Generalisation is deliberately destructive and devisive, don’t do it, it’s wrong and you know it!
Their superiors in the department NEED to face criminal charges too. Only when this happens will those in charge actually ensure that this kind of thing never happens.
🎶I could join a chain of males or be the missing link
Looking for a lucky girl to put me in the pink
They pat some good boys on the back and put some to the rod
But I never thought they'd put me in the
Goon squad🎶
Who was their boss? Is that guy still employed? Is there any investigation on how many other cops knew what they were doing and didn’t do anything about it?
At minimum, they should all be fired
we need to see indictments for:
- whomever was “dispatching” the Goon Squad
- whomever was the “supervisor” of these officers as well as other senior management including the sheriff
- whomever at the DA’s office was accepting the “evidence” generated by the Goon Squad and providing cover for them
