I don’t think it’s an exaggeration at all to say the decision threatens the Republic. I might not have said so in 2015, before I saw how triumphantly lawless and autocratic the President could be, and how so many people would applaud it or at least shrug.

The Framers imagined a relatively powerful Congress and a lot of checks on the Executive. Congress does the budget, Congress in charge of war, etc. Most of those powers have effectively been transferred or reduced over many years. Congress now is weak and disfunctional & doesn't effectively check.

It'll be interesting to see if signing on to the "you can't disqualify trump" opinion for a nice 9-0 gets the liberal justices the same courtesy in the "the president is above the law" decision or if they just got rolled

US farm economy is facing a dramatic downturn, commodity prices falling, costs higher. Profitability will fall lower than many years. I have a sad story of chinchillas from my youth. My mom put their cage in the sprinkler to cool them off, but apparently that's the wrong thing to do and their fur mats down and gets hotter. They died. We were all traumatized.

I don't know why they choose the fence. Sometimes in full sunlight. Maybe they catch a little breeze. Maybe it's safer because it's elevated. But didn't seem like the coolest spot.

It's really incredible how the US economy has rebounded from the pandemic - but it's bad news for global inequality and poverty reduction. Sucking up so much capital starves the rest of the world.

"felon status" He is a "person of felon". Maybe "felon-ly abled"? Many people think of Trump primarily as a felon. But that shouldn't overshadow the other dimensions of his person. He's also an asshole, rapist, liar, narcissist, idiot. And, his hair and skin color are a choice.

The IPC (the organization assessing food insecurity) published a review of their previous analysis covering the situation in Gaza until the end of April. It concludes there's no basis for determining famine thresholds were crossed in April, and can't endorse famine classification for next period 1/2
