"Kill your darlings" only applies if you're holding onto something that actually hurts your story. But jerks sometimes use "kill your darlings" as a weapon to try to break you. Don't wantonly kill what you love the most about your story. That's why you're writing it. Make it work.

it's actually extremely funny that we were told we can't use Wikipedia for research in the early 2000s but Wikipedia may be the only reason we even have a somewhat coherent historical record of culture and events from the last 25 years or so and will probably be needed to create future history texts

it was all fine for the Edinburgh Seven for their first couple of years - they attended lectures at the back, paid for private classes in dissection etc. the male students went har har har. then they took exams and one of the women won the prize for best paper. and THEN it all kicked off.

I don’t want to have to boycott Adobe (for all this AI shit). I want Adobe to not be arseholes. But like all hopes of corporations developing (with no incentive) a moral compass, they’ve prioritised shareholders (as they are bound to by law) and outsourced morality and decency to their customers.
