It’s so cool when game creators branch out into other media. For example, the creators of Myst designed the shower controls in this AirBnB.

It's wrong, but it's not wage theft and I don't think we should minimize *actual* wage theft. That's when employers demand unpaid overtime, take tips they're not entitled to, or simply don't pay employees what they're owed. Those are real things that happen. What you describe is just inequity.

My theory is that some of this comes about because the developers themselves are all level-capped even before release. Plus they have inside knowledge of the game's mechanics, so they can make things easier for themselves in ways normal players can't. And they lack empathy.

The other trend I hate, especially in ARPGs, is that everything revolves around the endgame. Everything is about getting and tweaking the rarest top-tier loot. I like tinkering with the builds as much as anyone (on a Diablo4 kick right now BTW) but the main campaign shouldn't be an afterthought.

I'm a pretty experienced gamer. I'm damn good at some games (e.g. the entire Dishonored series) and so-so at others. But if any game has content gated behind a highly un-thematic boss fight, I'm playing on the easiest setting. Or binning it for shitty lazy player-hostile design. Life's too short.

I spread my short writing among four micro-blogging apps. In order of appearance: Xitter, Mastodon, Threads, and here. My longer pieces go to Tumblr or WriteFreely. If I concentrated on one, I might be a Bigger Deal, but I don't want to be a Bigger Deal. What I want is one tab instead of six.

Do you remember a couple years ago when Boston Children’s Hospital was targeted with bomb threats because of disinformation of their gender-related services, and a woman was arrested? She was convicted, and in the defense sentencing memorandum is something interesting.

In programming, it's fairly well known that debugging is harder than writing new code. What's often missed is that debugging *people* is also much harder than debugging code, and that's a large part of what good teaching is. Figuring out exactly where the mental block is can be tough.

What we're seeing is the economy that's *inevitable* when ideas like hers take hold. Deregulation, union busting, $$$ in politics, etc. were guaranteed to end in collusion like this, enriching some at public expense. Randroids only complain when it's not *their* group that gets to loot the commons.

Violet Orlandi's version of Mad World is, surprisingly, acoustic. I'm used to her doing metal, but this really shows off how fine her voice is. I would kill for her and Dan Vasc to trade places on these songs, each in their signature style. I'd probably die if they did a collab.

Sound of Silence, by Disturbed or Dan Vasc
Gone Away, by Five Finger Death Punch or Noctura
Mad World, by Gregorian or Melodicka Bros or Violet Orlandi

Yes, Gregorian is just what you think. Check it out. MB is new to me, but WOW.

The entire game of making right wingers “patriots” and liberals “America haters” is about gerrymandering what you’re allowed to be proud of in American history and what counts as hatred. Pride in The New Deal doesn’t count and hatred of immigrants and America’s largest cities doesn’t count either.

Even someone who believes that Chevron deference was "incorrect" in an abstract sense would have to be able to see that the court's don't have the *capacity* to do what agencies do. This is more total work for fewer people, who are already overloaded. They're not dumb. They don't *want* it to work.

One of the few things the left and right should be able to agree on is that the constitution is failing us and we need a new one. The main difference is that the right has been working effectively toward that goal. We sane people have to work *just as hard* to turn the result away from fascism.

I said what I said. A person can be *both* a bigot and a pedant (the latter of which you just were BTW). Just look around here, at all the hate between far-lefties and "shitlibs". That's beyond different beliefs. That's group hatred.

Also, most people are bigots of some sort. Many of the people fighting obvious forms of bigotry also harbor unreasoning hatred toward some (would be, should be) allies based on minor points of doctrine or terminology. Going to war over "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" level issues.

As someone who used to win debate competitions, two observations. (1) What we see on TV is not a debate. (2) Whatever it is, it's a poor guide to choosing a candidate. That kind of performance has its place, but it tells us nothing about a person's real beliefs, judgment, or character.

A lot of people seem to think they've become more liberal as they've gotten older, but in reality most of them have simply stood still (at best) while the country lurched right. Many of them are *deeply* conservative in the word's true sense, no matter what flags they fly or lawn signs they put out.

Exactly! We've won before and we'll win again. Last night was a setback, but winning is still easier if we *don't* elect the worst president in the world and a bunch of his enablers in congress. Those still pinning their hopes on the Leftist Rapture can go to hell along with their right-wing allies.
