It's been interesting to see the consensus on this site harden in realtime around the idea that not only is sticking with Biden the obvious correct choice for Dems no matter what other facts might emerge, but that anyone who suggests otherwise is either dishonest, an idiot or a handmaiden of fascism
I mean, if the decision to flee is based solely on that one debate performance and not also his record over the last three years, then people could be excused for questioning one's motives.
And what else might emerge? Well... It's a gimmie that he'll get worse, not better. Then there's a second senior moment in mid October that there's no recovering from... but I'm an idiot (better, IMO, than a liar or a fascist facilitator if allowed to pick)
Is sticking with Biden the correct choice for Democrats? Quite possibly! I can see compelling arguments both ways. No doubt it would be chaotic to replace him at this point. Also seems clear he's a weaker candidate than 4 yrs ago.
But few folks on here seem afflicted with any degree of uncertainty.
I think a big part of this is in reaction to the... posters of questionable value that this is set in the context of, and I'm including both the NYT and the "Biden and Trump are exactly the same" chuds here.
It looks very nearly unwinnable whichever path RealDems dictate here, which may explain both all the apoplexy and ‘power thru status quo’ chiding. Telling that the strongest hectoring format is a combo of faith-based and harder-workerist (trademark RealDem rhetorics). Imagine believing in them ha.
My worthless two cents. I think what some people want is certainty. Someone that they are sure will defeat Trump. And there simply is no certainty there. This election will swing on a small number of votes in a handful and of states.
I think it depends on your timeline. I lean slightly Biden stay because I think there are a lot of replacement hurdles that have little to do with the candidate (Biden or anyone else.) But so far there’s only one guy confidently yelling at me that no one wants that because Gaza
I think it somehow tied into the usual center left vs far left fight here. Weirdly, a lot of Never Trump center right folks also think Biden should step down, but they're not here to fight it out
I see both. Personally I’m on the Biden has to go side. Also the NYT is very focused on this. Many things can be true at once. I think people are in denial about Biden, honestly, because we’re all terrified of Trump. I’ve been close to people with dementia. I think both candidates have it! 🫤
