The BBC’s “Seats Changed” map is wild. You can now walk from the coast of North Devon up to Bicester and then down to Eastbourne without ever leaving newly Lib Dem seats. Tired: The Blue Wall Wired: The YELLOW SNAKE

It's impressive that on a stage where there's a Monster Raving Loony Party candidate *and* Count Binface (not in shot), the Reform UK guy's suit still stands out as terrible.

Yes, to be fair, the history of the zoot suit is fascinating and a somewhat under-appreciated chapter in the history of 20th century racial politics in the US.

If you ever get to catch a regional train in the UK, spend a few minutes reading the place names on the timetable. Both the most ridiculous density of place names and the place names are all preposterous. Heard of Wednesbury before? Of course not, no-one has, but it's been there the whole time.

Why do we have to wait for rumours from whatever the British equivalent of party scrutineers are, or for the Lord Chief High Bailiff of the Wapentake or whatever to read out the results? Where is the British Antony Green reminding us that "very early figures, only two booths counted, but..."

That should be so much EASIER with FPTP! I know we have 150 seats to their 650 (and our Senate votes literally take weeks to get a final result), but even with preferential voting the ABC can give us get a pretty decent Two Party Preferred projection for most seats three hours after polls close.

So, am I right that the UK doesn't seem to do updated tallies for each seat while they're counting? Lots of "Labour think they've won x" and "Lib Dems confident they've taken y" but no official "as of just now here's who's ahead" info? No virtual tally room? Where's the fun in that?

I know this is really about one side of politics being constrained by norms the other side doesn’t care about, but in general, “don’t do what the worst people do” seems like a pretty good heuristic?

While I get the point that’s being made here, I’m not sure “take people into custody instead of killing them” is the *worst* message to send, truth be told? Like, yeah, don’t execute people.

Looking at the article (which is from 2016) that's between the two of them, not individually. I'd still suggest that three pints, half a bottle of wine and a port at *what is essentially a work lunch* is probably ill-advised, even if you're *not* a politician talking to a journalist.
