There hasnāt been enough said about the āInvisible Recessionā of 2015-16 and its impact. While nationally the economy was āMeh, fine,ā in those years, many states and localities were in technical recession - and **a lot** of those places were responsible for giving Trump an edge in 2016.

I know some people who voted Trump in 2016 because they felt like their communities were being ignored by Dems. Most of those never became die-hard cultists and may be redeemable. But people who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 **because** they liked that heās an asshole? Nah, no redemption.

Whatās frustrating reading Madisonās journal of Philadelphia is being able to see the Framers understand that the concept of a presidency is fatally flawed, but they talked themselves into going with it anyway. Meanwhile, history has shown that parliamentary republics are indeed the way to go.

I'm not a fan of quoting the Founding Fathers when it comes to contemporary debates. In most cases, I hate it. The earth belongs in usufruct to the living, the dead having neither powers nor rights over it. But as the U.S. approaches July 4th, these words feel particularly pertinent and relevant.

Debates really only matter when the candidates werenāt really known to the general public / people who werenāt engaged with the primaries. Not really an issue when one candidate is the president and the other candidate was the president and so peopleās opinions are all but locked in.
