But isn't it also due to the frequent differences between liberals and right wingers— liberals just don't tend to organize themselves the same way right wingers do, period. Many religious liberals just won't push their beliefs on other people.

Keir Starmer became Britain’s new Prime Minister. His first decision: he must hand write orders on whether to use nuclear weapons if London is obliterated in a surprise attack. They’re the Letters of Last Resort. He’s likely writing them now. My latest: www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

Too many people start that song very dirge-like. It's not peppy and cheery at all, and it takes for fucking ever. It seems to have gotten worse, maybe people aren't so happy anymore.

13 years ago, Ry Cooder wrote an ASTONISHINGLY prescient song.
"And then the day dawned bright and hard
When I stole away the court of nine
The Judas men served the cause
And the sacred church of law is mine
Justice has been cast down
I want my crown, I want my crown"

In The New Republic, historian Holly Brewer compares the Court's decision to Godden v. Hales, a 1686 case affirming that James II was above the law – which was only repudiated when James II was overthrown in the Glorious Revolution. newrepublic.com/article/1833...

Yes, it seems to be a non-issue that 78-year-old Donald Trump was incapable of staying awake during his own criminal trial. He's a spring chicken, you see, the very picture of youthful vigor.

I trust Brits thinking 'it's a foregone conclusion so why bother to vote' are watching events in France and the US.
It is *never* a foregone conclusion and you *always* have to vote against the bad people because they will sure as shit vote against you.

As with 2000, the court is choosing the president. This time with way more shameless actions. State legislatures have made it harder to vote. A genocide is going on abroad. One candidate at home is pledging a purge of minorities, dissidents and the poor. These are the facts. Anything else is a lie.

Nobody loves that Joe Biden is 81. It would be great if he was 35. But you know what I really dislike? Authoritarianism. So I humbly beseech people to get a goddamn grip.

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles.
Thinking about that a lot.

If we're going to conceptualize US politics as a spectrum from left to right, then we should have a name not just for what that far left end is (Communism) but also what the far right end is (fascism). Given that the GOP has continually moved rightward over the past decades, where's it heading? Hmmm

Some reduce the 2024 campaign to a contest between two old men, but it's a choice of two slates of federal appointees who'll impact your life in a million ways.
Biden has staffed executive agencies with excellent choices who are doing good work. Trump will empower an army of Stephen Millers.
