Hot take: I'm truly not interested in hand wringing over how much people will miss enjoying the books of men who have turned out to be abusers. I'm far more concerned about the missing art that women haven't been able to create/publish because they crossed paths with such men.

autistic adults (me) have a lot of the same needs as autistic children (sensory regulation via going on swings for two hours) but fewer ways to access those things (weird for solo adult to go on swings) and all the adult ways of doing that shit costs a bunch of money (aerial classes)

Reminder that there are five ways to address the current SCOTUS problem. 1. Impeach some justices 2. Impose term limits 3. Expand the courts 4. Pass legislation limiting court prerogatives 5. Keep winning the presidency for the next 16 years or so while periodically also holding the senate.

Me too. I went to an extremely rural school. K-8th but only 800 students. That 1 day a week was the only time I was around other ND kids, and it was some of the best education I got. But I understand experiences vary widely, and I don’t ever call myself “gifted” anymore bc ew.

Most spectrum people I know have social overstim/anxiety because, since they can remember, someone in their lives has told them how they're too much, doing it wrong, being weird, acting "off", or otherwise relating to other humans incorrectly. So, yeah. That weighs on a kid, and later, an adult.

I don't think everyone is "suddenly" having adhd and autism. I think millennials were raised by parents who were ashamed of having children that weren't "normal" so we were forced to mask so hard that we "seemed" normal but were "just a little strange" and now we're all learning to unmask.

when you're autistic, exposure therapy for social situations often doesn't really work. Because it's not an irrational fear pf social situations for us, it's not really social anxiety. For us, the social situations are ACTUALLY unsafe. Exposing us more doesn't change that, unfortunately.
