I once had a convo with a flat earther, where another guy walked up who was a pilot. He refuted the flat earth thing, the FE left, then we chatted briefly and I realized the pilot thought the earth was 6k years old. Legit was on board with a globe, but dinosaur bones were put there as a trick…. 🤦♀️

I mean, yes this is how this works? Was it a question? This happens in many different areas of democratic orgs, large and small. It SHOULDN’T. There should be rules and checks and balances to prevent it, but at the end of the day this is what has been happening for a long time.

FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING "said" is NOT DEAD. It's okay for things to just be said. They don't always need a fancy synonym, and the more of them you chuck in there, the more juvenile your writing seems. Idc what your English teacher told you. It's okay to just use "said."

Last weekend I sat on a panel where four other writers encouraged folks to submit to venues that charge reading fees and to pay for entry fees to contests because if you win, it’s worth it. I said “Never pay. Fuck fees.” Nice and friendly? No, but fuck fees. Never pay to play.

I spent a lot of my early time in spaces that used the words “commercial fiction” and “literary fiction” instead of genre. Because frankly for many people the divide is “is this understandable and enjoyable enough to have mass appeal?” If so, then it’s not considered lit fic by some. Which is wild.

Oh my god, this is fucking huge. It was huge when we developed a daily PrEP pill that could prevent you from catching HIV; this is a successful phase III trial of a PrEP shot that will only need to be given *twice a year*. Still needs a confirmatory Phase III, but holy fuck.

My 3 year old nephew and I are standing at the edge of the water, watching the waves roll in. Both sad b/c the wind is too strong to fly our kite. He asks me - Will you make the wind good for kites? Y’all… because I’ve flown kites before I CONTROL THE WIND. This is the best day ever.
