Noting which UK newspaper headlines define 3 murdered women primarily/only by their husband/father's status and occupation. I accept facts to report are sparse at the moment, but in what looks like yet another case of lethal male rage following rejection, the women as adjuncts default really grates.

A mysterious phenomenon in the woods. Grasses pressed flat to the earth over about 15m2, as if large herbivores like deer were regularly using the spot to rest up. But there are no other signs you'd expect if it were deer: droppings, browsed vegetation, hair, etc ... Thoughts?

Pandanus candelabrum (📷: Paul Latham CCBYNC2) of tropical West Africa is thought to be an indicator of diamonds! 💎 It grows well on soils overlying kimberlite pipes, the sources of diamonds. Add “geobotanical indicator” to the many uses of Pandanus. #TropicalBotany #Pandanaceae #Botany 🌾🧪

Not sure if #WormWednesday is here on Bluesky, but if not, hope this helps make that happen. This is the home of the shallow-marine polychaete worm _Diopatra_, which it builds by attaching small clam shells & algae to an inner tube. Specimen was on Sapelo Island, GA. 🧪🪱 #ichnology 1/2

This Fona herzogae has died. There is no discernible cause of death. The falling leaves will blanket her, hiding her body from predators. The floodplain mud and clay will bury her, and she will rest for one hundred million years.

It's hard getting stuff "out there" these days. We're trying to build a little Mulgrave Audio world of vintage weirdness. If you've enjoyed our stuff, maybe consider an RT, a share, a Bandcamp review, anything like that? It all helps enormously - thanks.

🌱🌿🌍🍄🌾🧪 The adder's-tongue family of ferns (Ophioglossaceae) look different. One species found all over the UK and Ireland. Lives in unimproved pastures, damp meadows and also in wet areas of some sand dunes. Its genome is split across very many chromosomes (120 - 720). #BUC2024

Is #TrilobiteTuesday a thing here on Bluesky? If not, it is now, starting with these beautifully expressed trilobite trackways (called Cruziana) on a sedimentary bed surface; tracks are preserved as natural casts on the bed bottom. Specimen on display at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), Toronto. 🧪🪨

Great tip for anyone who spends a lot of time in wild places, where there's a risk of picking up ticks: get yourself a ' Swedish Tick Lasso Trix'. They really work, removing the entire tick and leaving nothing embedded (so no risk of Lyme). Best 10 euro you'll ever spend. 🌎

I'm still excitedly telling everyone I know about the Trilobite Pompeii paper. Any time we learn more about the soft-tissue anatomy of trilobites is pretty cool in my book. I don't think any of the authors are on this hellsite, sadly.

Listening to James Timpson's interview, it is clear that he would like to see a sea-change in sentencing policy. That will not be his remit, but if the new PM supports such a change, I think it would have very significant ramifications for our political culture. Let me explain. /1

The Lib Dems have won the last parliamentary seat, Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire. MP Angus MacDonald has a 2k majority over the SNP. It’s a totemic seat for the Lib Dems, the seat (mainly) of former party leader Charles Kennedy. The LDs now have 6 in Scotland, pushing the Tories into 4th place
