Have done this. I’m only not buried because didn’t have a backyard at the time. Park was too crowded.

When I’m feeling uncomfortable with a decision or ask, I can usually work it out by coming back to the values here and figuring out which ones I am leaning into, or what the situation is forcing me to compromise, and whether I’m okay with that.

My therapist wanted me to narrow it down to 2-3 but it was too difficult for me. Regardless, t looking back at this map and shifting it as time has gone on has really helped me to make decisions about jobs, activism, study, relationships, boundaries, etc.

You keep sorting the cards into the most to least important categories (in comparison to one another) until you’re at a small amount of cards. For me, I ended up with 6 and made an interconnected web of how they related to one another.

A therapist did this process with me once and it helps me keep coming back to “what should I put the most energy into?” Or “why am I spending my time on this?” Maybe that’s what you’re looking for?

Thanks to all the #KidLit #kidlitart folks who suggested food- and cooking- picture books for my kiddo. We asked our library to acquire the ones they didn’t already have.

He enjoyed them all. But his absolute favorite was Lenny Wen’s SPICY, SPICY HOT.

We might need to buy our own copy. 😂🌶️

We chose a movie and time where we thought it wouldn’t be too crowded, and we got lucky. I’m not a huge movie person but it was worth it as a once in a while treat.

If it helps, I just had to interview for a new job the past few weeks and I masked in the interviews even though no one else was masking. I was offered the job I wanted last week ❤️. I know how hard it is to be the only one.

As you’ve pointed out in other areas, these are written by authors. AI generated works cannot compare.

I use storytelling in class to create our own CI work, because when we write as a class it is written from the perspective of the cultures that exist in our classroom, which is an authentic way to use the language, and allows for guidance and clarity in meaning.

CI that is written for the sake of CI I usually encourage students to use for independent practice (the site Rockalingua comes to mind). I just don’t think most of it provides enough context to allow students insight into culturally appropriate use of the words and phrases they are learning.

Yes, of course. I rely mainly on materials written in the target language for TL speakers. To lower affective filters the words/phrases are introduced in various related contexts before tackling a text. Ex: infographics prior to an informational paragraph, pictures with captions before narrative.

I also use mainly audiobooks (even for textbooks), but I’d prefer audiobook study to a watered-down version of the book. It’s not helpful for citation for example, and it takes away from the nuance of the text.

Yup. It’s almost never a matter of sitting down and weighing what you want from life, and almost always a “but what is the only way we can make this happen?”

I’m so sorry, people just don’t get it. My spouse immigrated here because it’s not only illegal for us to get married in their home country, but I’d have very limited rights or legal status living there, even with permanent residency. Who wants a choice between a rock and a hard place?

Thank you for this affirmation. I have a new therapist for this reason because talk therapy just wasn’t doing anything for me. I need solid practicing strategies to help me at this point, because thinking and reflection have left me tied in knots.

My elementary World Language program was just cut from one of the biggest school districts in the state because of budget in favor of keeping reading and math computer programs that increase test scores. This is all a legacy of the NCLB policies. 2/2

Oh, the effects are still around today. I worked with a 1st grade teacher who didn’t teach anything except literacy for half the year because “the most important thing is they learn how to read”. The 2nd grade teacher was so lost trying to get those kids caught up. 1/2

There is so much more than a simple categorization process going on with what you are describing. It’s not just sensory experience but a process of interconnected comprehension that places “red” as a category, a general concept, and a specific visual cue simultaneously. LLM can’t do that.

That is one small component of how human brains learn/use language. Do you have any background in language acquisition? This is an extremely complex topic and if it boiled down to statistical word association far more people would be multilingual.

Disabled lives are always the *least* important. Disabled lives are always the *first* sacrificed. You gave up on caring about genocide and eugenics the second you all took your masks off. Putting them back on now to protect your privacy isn't a selfless act.

Ah, no problem. Remove the sugar from the mix. Garlic bread sprinkled with cocoa nibs will do the trick. Adds an extra bite of bitter that’s so nice. Or if you prefer the breadsticks and dip method then get some decent mole sauce and dip away! Chocolate is so versatile.
