"...the failure to address the climate crisis is evidence the political and economic system is fundamentally broken and the only logical response is a wartime campaign of resistance" 100% correct.

The creeping authoritarianism in Australia is really bleak. HRLC examines two decades of governments eroding the right to protest.
"These laws have disproportionately targeted environmental defenders and people advocating for action on climate change."

As of today, speed limiters are required in the EU.

All new cars sold in the EU and in Northern Ireland must have a range of technical safety features... The most notable of these is intelligent speed assistance – or colloquially, a speed limiter.”

Yes, but again, the poorer deciles are not flying to begin with and again, we should be disincentivising flying across the board. The point is that this reduction needs to occur on a much greater scale amongst the higher deciles, and a tax of sufficient size would do that.

Ignoring the fact that flying is comically under-taxed to begin with, the point here is that a frequent fliers tax *specifically* targets wealthier individuals, as they are the only ones flying multiple times per year.

I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:

I think a tax is the most effective solution in an environment where international rail is still very inefficient and expensive. The trick is to make it big enough to properly impact behaviour.

Carbon footprints among different income deciles in Germany are pretty similar.... until you look at transport. Once again, a very strong argument for a frequent fliers tax.

Yeah, I'm being overly generous - they're just neoliberals. We have the same problem in Australia with the Labor party, who are essentially just centre-right at this point. Given the chance, they *always* side with the right over the left. It's nice to see some on Macron's side bucking the trend.

"Le Monde estimated that 218 candidates – including 130 from the left and 82 from the Macron camp – withdrew from races by the deadline.
This left an estimated 91 three-way races and 2 four-way races on Sunday."
Pleasant surprise...

2) You're for some reason assuming that the LNP deserves to be one of these major parties. You don't! The indies are being elected because they offer policies people like! If you can't do that, enjoy becoming increasingly irrelevant (if only...).

And finally, yeah I guess lasting change does require major party engagement (to some extent) but you're making two key mistakes. 1) As the electorate fractures away from a 2 party system, independents and minor parties have real power to get things done and...

Secondly, this boils down to "vote for us or our policies get worse"... like, ok? That seems like a 'you' problem, as your party continues to lose relevancy and seats.

Nuclear will never be built in Australia. It’s too expensive, we don’t have a trained workforce, and nobody wants it. The danger here is that it takes the pressure off Labor’s weakness on climate. The inane binary of our politics means the next election is nukes vs gas. Our task is to stop both.

Literally every media outlet should be doing editorials crucifying the LNPs moronic nuclear energy policy. Don't leave it to the opinion section (though this one is good).
