ME: So, you know what the quote marks mean?
GOOGLE: Yes.
ME: And you're going to search for all of these words?
GOOGLE: Yes.
ME: I don't want results on anything else.
GOOGLE: Ok.
ME: Good. What did you find?
GOOGLE: lol i ignored all your words here's a fucking shower curtain lmao
Did you use single or double quotes? Single quotes are just ignored... Google has bad glasses (goggles), so they can't see single quotes. 😂
And don't forget about the powerful negative sign. 😉
Have you found "verbatim"?
It's not great but if you do a search look under "all results" and tick "Verbatim" option it improves your results marginally.
But only for that search. You have to redo it each time.
I do feel like this problem is getting worse. Recently, it's very common for me to google a two-word phrase in quotes only to have it give me a huge set of results that don't contain the phrase. (It used to at least say, "sorry, I couldn't find that so I tried again without your quotes.")
YES. I just noticed this yesterday. No matter what I did, Google kept trying to “help” me by bringing up something not even in the same species of what I was searching for.
Me: Google, does the Mandalay Bay hotel treat their animals well?
Google: YES, YOU CAN BRING YOUR DOG HERE. DOG FRIENDLY. YAY DOG ANIMAL.
Okay, that wasn’t my best use of search terms, I admit that. But come on!
(They are AZA accredited, which is what I should have asked I suppose)
I live Sunshine Coast Queensland & near me used to be good search. Lately have being randomly getting other towns in NSW & Victoria 2640 or 3658 kilometres away. PS never try Yellow Pages search totally ridiculous for years.
I searched yesterday for “harbor freight drawers” to find something that I’ve found before using those same terms. Only stuff from Uline showed up, so I added “-uline” and got… all uline still.
Google has rendered itself useless now.
Well what we need to do now is much simpler and it involves finding a very obscure Discord about your topic, joining with an invite that hopefully hasn't expired, and then crawling through a list of randomly pinned messages until you give up
Also Google: I don't know if I have anything relating to that word you just googled, but here's a load of stuff relating to another word that has some of the same letters.
1. I remember when G accepted the boolean "+" instead of the wretched quote matks.
2. I remember, I think it was the old Yahoo search engine, which in advanced mode listed terms that showed up along with your search, and you could mark yes, no, or neutral and refine etc.
