A problem in AI is that massive datasets have no context beyond the data points themselves, so AI doesnât learn the meanings of whatâs said, only their syntax relationships. Itâs proven the old argument in philosophy of mind that syntax carries all meaning to be definitively false.

One of the reasons TA work is sometimes (AND OFTEN NOT) repetitive lower-skilled tasks is bc these are training tasks for early career scholars. If we automate them and eliminate the positions associated with them, we are explicitly gutting the future of these fields.

In all fairness, it will probably discourage human TAs from half-adding their jobs as well. I remember one fellow PhD student who held tutorials where heâd separate the undergrads into discussion groups and sleep for 45 minutes. He made all of us who made an effort to teach look like trash.

The seat change makes Starmerâs win look massive, but their popular vote totals were the same as in 2019. Labour won largely because 40-50% of the old Tory vote went to Reform, & Labour came up the middle. Their conservative shift didnât achieve much.

Iâve been following Young Thugâs trial on and off, and Iâm convinced that Georgiaâs prosecutors have deluded themselves into thinking that his lyrics about being a fictional gangster are literal descriptions of his actual life. The trialâs breakdown is from their having no evidence of real crimes.

When I had closer connections to the Orthodox community, I heard many times the idea that all non-Jews were anti-Semites, pushing that there could be no peaceful co-existence of Jews as minorities in non-Jewish societies.

A lot of the PR that Israeli nationalists do around the world is encouraging diaspora Jews to make Aliyah to Israel by promoting the idea that Jewish people can never be safe as a minority. So they ally with anti-Semitic Western leaders who want fewer Jews in their own countries.
