Demanding "no monkey pushing" and no lessons about fossil fuels that might "cast the oil-and-gas industry in a bad light," Texas education commissars move to block science textbooks from eight publishers—🎁:
I'd already seen the climate change denial part, but "no monkey pushing" takes things back a century. These really are the worst kind of deeply stupid reactionaries, who shouldn't have even a trace of influence on public education, let alone control of curriculums and staffing.
The irony is that, taken literally, "no monkey pushing" is actually an important lesson that would certainly help reduce the number of people bitten by monkeys.
All the while, Texans have a Governor who is forcing a 4th special session, and threatened more, if the texas congress does not approve vouchers to attend private schools. Essentially providing welfare for those who can afford it and taking money away from public schools.
The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink. — 1984
The Texas school textbook market is huge & influential with publishers and so the content decisions that Texas makes affects what gets taught in other states’ schools as well, unfortunately.
