Just FYI we’re entering a summer Covid wave right now (especially western regions in the US); you can see it in the CDC wastewater plot here (and anecdotally a bunch of my friends are suddenly testing positive). www.cdc.gov/nwss/rv/COVI...
I've stopped looking at the maps for a year after Oregon stopped reporting - have they restarted /do you know if it's trustworthy now? The "minimal" sandwiched btwn CA and WA "high" is a bit suspicious but depends on the data... All so hard...
Sigh. I had almost convinced myself it would probably be ok to spend a weekend in NYC for my birthday in a couple weeks so long as I masked indoors. NY state numbers are pretty good, but it’s only a matter of time before the tourists make that shoot up. 😭
I just ran into a medical professional in the Boston hospital network who went out of her way to tell me to mask up for my safety because numbers are high
Yep. Seattle area, sudden upswing in my social circles. Mostly people who don’t mask consistently. And some who are claiming that urging people to mask is “shaming” those who get it. Thanks for telling on yourselves. 😒
My mom and I have been home testing every two weeks since March. Mine today was negative, but hers came up positive. First time in four years, and after *every* available shot & always masking in public this whole time. Well, except that her work (Goodwill) expressly forbids masks in the dress code.
Anecdata: At least 10 of my friends have tested positive for COVID in the last 2 weeks, almost entirely unrelated contacts.
Two of them (who don't know each other) got COVID for the first time ever.
At least in Chicago the wave seems huge right now.
In AU we're seeing abnormally high flu and whooping cough as well. The waste-water testing is a great way to get early info on outbreaks, levels of illnesses and drug usage etc. I'm pretty sure we used to only test for Giardia, Cryptosporidium etc.
I really wish we could choose to do a booster every six months if we were so inclined — feels like I’m catching COVID right at the wane of immunity from the last booster.
My state (Nebraska) shut down its state wastewater test site page, part of my Republican-run state's continued effort to hide Covid-19 information. The CDC page says there are a fifteen state sites but doesn't say where they are. The chart shows the same level as last year.
hurblegurble but masks are uncomfortable and awkwaaaard pule
I'm literally the only person I see in public SoCal wearing a mask, aside from some medical employees
The Massachusetts coloring (high) very much ACK, MV, and Cape-driven if the 2020,21, and 22 trends hold. (Did not check 2023.) The Boston data also shows slight but with some pretty high individual readings
There’s not a lot of official messaging lately but we all know what to do by now. If not getting sick is important to you, masks (especially good ones, and especially in crowded/poorly ventilated spaces) are helpful, testing before gatherings is helpful, being up to date on vaccines is helpful.
Anecdata: I caught COVID, for the 1st time, 2 weeks ago. I believe I caught it either while masked (N95) indoors or while unmasked outdoors in New York City.
I took a short SWA flight (Oregon to the Bay Area) yesterday. I only saw a dozen or so other masked people in the airport and just two on my flight. Summer vacation roulette...
