lmao I called my local coffeeshop to see if they were open today--my fave barista happened to pick up & she was like yep we're here and also we have almond lemon loaves left [one of my go-to pastries]
truly if you want the benefits of being loved you must submit to the embarrassment of being known
At my local library I am in there so often they notice if I miss a week. They make comments about my large borrow piles like 'last you the weekend?' I am known. At my local library. (I like it)
was getting food at an italian restaurant and the server was calling someone to tell them they have their favorite special on the menu tonight
like the server was cold calling a regular to say they have that dish they know they loved
For sure. My wife and I went to a local restaurant so often when it opened that the manager gave us friends and family discount and could almost predict our order!
I lived in Brooklyn for a year, and my greatest day was when I realized the guy who mixed an iced coffee by flipping the cup end to end knew me and made my drink when he saw me.
I've been a regular at a few places in my neighbourhood that unfortunately haven't survived the slings and arrows of fortune, but I didn’t realise how regular until a former waitress for a sushi place lost to a fire a year prior called out to me on the street and asked after my life 🥹
I’ve lived most my life in a small town, to the point that some local gas station workers have known me since birth.
Made it weird when I lived in a city, finding out it’s not universal to hang and chat with a cashier for an hour.
There's a bakery up the street from me where they saw my email on an order and started drawing tubas on the bags. So I saved em for a year and made a collage for them. Which they then hung up and curated like a museum piece. I love em there and they're always happy to see me ❤️
once more for the ranks of the freaks who suspect they can never love anyone:

The fish seller at the local farmers market greets everyone in a sometimes quite long line by name, some banter etc. after seeing you twice-- it's like watching an Olympic athlete
My tabletop RPG group ordered from the same Thai restaurant every week and there was always 1-2 orders of Yellow Chicken Curry. One week we mixed it up and nobody ordered it, and they called us to make sure they hadn’t gotten it down wrong.
Gods above and below I love/hate that feeling. The folks at the gelato place near my house make a point of introducing me to new employees. It’s super embarrassing, but… also really nice.
Years ago, I used to go to the same coffee place every day during my lunch break and I'd almost always just get a medium americano. After a while, some of the servers would just prepare it while I was still queueing and it'd be already waiting for my be the time I got to the counter.
