That's actually my point -- if Biden formally hands it to Kamala, that loyalism can guarantee a safe first vote, and there will be no legal repercussions.

The actual wording is, "Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them". So it's morally binding (?) but not legally binding

But there is no legally committed delegate count; the delegates are sent to the DNC with nothing more than a polite suggestion to vote for the person they pledged to.

How can the deadline have passed if neither party has formally chosen a candidate? I think someone is misreading the law.

Major archaeological find! More than 1,000 wooden tablets (mokkan) found related to the Daijōsai, an incredibly important but poorly documented enthronement harvest ritual. These are from the enthronement of Shomu in 724. 🤯

Trump has demonstrated continual fitness in slandering people and misunderstanding basic functions of government, which is what the voting public has expected of him from day 1.

This doesn't seem to me to address the reason *why* he should drop out, which is that the signs of senility are increasing. Yes, he did well at a rally the next day. That's not relevant! When my dad got Alzheimer's, he did well in familiar situations up until the week he died.

I completely stopped using Goodreads when YA authors started using it for pile ons. It needs moderation and Amazon has abandoned it, I refuse to be part of that anymore

The core of the article about KakaoTalk creating a ROSCA app is super cool, and I'm glad they decided to write an article about it. I just wish they had talked to an economic historian, who could help them find their own past journalism on this exact topic...

ROSCAs have existed for centuries in Africa, Southeast Asia and Japan. In fact they came to America over a decade ago, under the term "susu". Because US banks are unfamiliar with ROSCAs they have shuttered associated bank accounts, as reported by... NYT. 😐 www.nytimes.com/2023/11/05/b...

NYT published a clueless article on rotating savings and credit association (ROSCAs), describing them as a primarily South Korean phenomenon and wondering whether they might be "possible" in the US. www.nytimes.com/2024/06/18/b...
