It was a really bad idea to try to push Biden out in a way that maximized the chances he'd stay and created the impression that this nearly impossible thing could just easily happen. But here we are.

It's time to revisit the idea of expanding the Supreme Court, which means it's time to dismiss the misunderstandings about FDR's "Court-packing controversy."

We're in a terrible situation and the only solution is to stop attacking the nominee we have.

Well I agree that the party is going to lose us the election if they keep on attacking Biden, but they can choose to stop any time they want to get their shit together.
And again, the alternative is...nothing. There is no alternative without fatally damaging that nominee from party infighting.

I don't see why he can't win. The best polling has it a 50-50 race in the electoral college, and as I said, there's good evidence to think the polling is significantly skewed against Biden.
But even if you think Biden is losing, to say he *can't* win? I don't see it.

YMMV. There's so little certainty about this situation that I don't blame anyone for having a different read of things.

And the polls that say Biden is losing also say that Americans between 18-25 are R+30. That literally can't be right. So the polls have to be wrong. Obviously, they can be wrong in lots of ways, but I trust every non-polling measure of the election, which says Biden is cruising to a huge victory.

But in America, the party that switches their candidate out away from an incumbent president always loses. So I'd rather not do that. It's Biden or nothing.

I find the question of whether or not Biden is "unfit" to campaign a strange one. Biden is unfit to campaign, but that's because of his views. If anything, being infirm is good, since it means the younger, lefter people around him will have more power.

Incorrect. The only Dem to vote against the IRA was Golden, from Maine.
The Squad voted for the IRA and were instrumental in getting so many green energy provisions in there.

That play happened with Build Back Better and Biden's comms team still keeps going after the Squad and negotiating with the centrists.
The Squad has consistently had Biden's back on policy while the centrists always backstab him. Since day one.

Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

Right. The problem with swapping Biden out as nominee is that it doesn't solve anything. The fundamental obstacle here is a media that *will* destroy any democratic nominee.
I don't have a solution.

The NYT's Biden stories show that the paper isn't afraid to flood the zone when they have a "news" story they insist Americans pay attention to. The Republican Party's embrace of Trump's full-on criminal and fascist behavior does not, to the Times, warrant such coverage.

No. My position is that I have no earthly idea what the right thing to do is, and I pretty immediately distrust anyone who thinks they do.
I'll vote for Biden, I'll vote for Harris. But every argument I've seen for making a switch seems pretty flawed to me.

Worrying about the candidate's capacity to be president, whoever that candidate is, is something we can address on January 20th. Until then, the only consideration is getting Trump's opponent elected.

Here's the thing: Every leftist and liberal should be united in beating Trump. Biden's mental health is completely irrelevant except to the effect it has on the election. If his campaign can get a corpse elected, then he shouldn't step down. If an energetic Biden will lose, we need a new candidate.

These are the stakes. This is one of the premier organs of “intellectual conservatism,” and they see the immunity ruling as transformative and revolutionary, and they are signaling the willingness to do violence to defend their gains. Make everyone you know understand these stakes.

Hoping to challenge Trump in 28 is a really, really bad plan for Newsom.
