In fairness, it offers the option to dial difficulty up (original text) or down (simple) and is marketed as an aid for young, non-native, or disabled readers—but yeah, on the face of it, that does look pretty dystopian in a “this ain’t Shakespeare” sort of way. I mean, what if it _is_ Shakespeare?

If you have fluorescent lighting in your kitchen, that may be the culprit—if I understand correctly that can emit a lot of UV, especially if the tubes are faulty. (The tubes generate UV, which strikes the white coating and is down-converted to visible light—but quite a bit of UV gets through too.)

If that captures current usage accurately, it’s changed a lot over the last 40–50 years. In my experience (from the 1970s to the present) it’s been applied broadly to boys/men of any age. Less so animals except maybe horses. Calling a woman handsome meant “you look good for your age”, which, yikes.

New in the mail, a really exciting piece of furry history: Rowrbrazzle #1 (February 1984), the publication that fan historian Fred Patten asserts was the moment when furry first came into being as its own distinct culture. Only ~30 copies were printed.

Glaze v2.1 is available now to download glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/downloads.html, and will be integrated with WebGlaze later this week. It is not a total fix but a short term patch targeting this attack. v2.1 also addresses several bugs and issues, and is also available for Intel-base Macs.
