just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

Taraji P. Henson did a huge public service calling out Project 2025. Earlier today, Kevin Roberts, chair of Project 2025, threatened violence: "We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be." It's Christofascism. Make no mistake.

really cannot emphasize enough how plainly all this proves that the first priority of the next Democratic administration needs to be democracy reform --filibuster --electoral college --court reform --dc and pr statehood --new voting rights act --gerrymandering

“democrats have to win every election forever” is not a sustainable solution and it is quite literally the one we are facing unless we break the power of this court

The reason pundits like the contested convention thing is that it plays to their vanities: what if the smart people made a meritocratic decision about who’s best? This is driven, in part, by being mostly isolated from negative reactions to their opinions over the years.

The road to every national media (and way too many other “national” level jobs) requires more than a year of full-time, unpaid internships in a major city. Our meritocratic cultural institutions literally recruit on the Anatole France version of “Our doors are open to anyone.”

Don't fall for the trap. If Democrats listen to the New York Times and try to replace Biden, the New York Times will have a new narrative: Democrats in chaos. And they will then have 347 stories a week about whoever is the candidate, all focused on how inexperienced and unprepared that person is.

The press only throws around these edicts if they think they can make somebody jump. The GOP always tells them to f**k off, so they don’t bother. Dems should do the same.

To every “Democratic strategist” rushing to WaPo, MSNBC etc. to anonymously say Biden should be replaced: you are worse than useless and you suck at your job. Trashing the candidate to the media is feckless and, dare I say, an absurdly stupid strategy for Democrats. STFU.

The Democratic Party’s reaction to their candidate having a bad debate substantially outpaces the Republican Party’s reaction to their candidate being convicted of multiple felonies, held liable for rape, and owing judgments in the hundreds of millions for defamation and fraud.

MAGA is pretty much where hippies were in the mid 1970s: they have dominated the media and think they are on the brink of creating a new world, but people are quietly getting tired of their shit.

The founders would have understood it as treason, and would resort to war against someone who attempted it, and punish it with hanging. Other countries would prosecute it as treason. That is what it is. Folks should be clear eyed on it.

The legislature doesn't have a role in deciding the election. The voters do. Any legislator who attempts to overturn the election result should be arrested.

A serious attempt by legislators or a candidate to invalidate a plainly valid election to install someone who plainly lost the election as president is not a "legal hack" or "finalizing results". It is treason. It is a treason against the United States and its citizens. We shouldn't dance around it.

Voting is not enough. Right wingers are evil and crazy, but they have disproportionate power because they had the discipline to do the grinding, boring, precinct level takeover of a major party. We need to do that.

Very frustrating seeing some "see, voting doesn't matter, Dems suck too!" regarding Kathy Hochul, who we actually almost got rid of in 2018 by replacing her in a low-turnout primary with a progressive primary challenger. That voting doesn't matter is the exact opposite of the takeaway here

Exactly. The pattern of conservatives creating unclear laws on issues like censorship and abortion is to misdirect blame, all the while using the threat of prosecution to make doctors afraid to do anything. All the power, no responsibility.

This is EXACTLY as clear as they want it to be. The goal is to ban abortion, but this way they get to blame the doctors because the "law allows*" it. *Local DA may prosecute anyway, good luck with the felony trial!
