Well, I meant publicly announced a choice. And in 2016 Ted Cruz announced a running mate to try and trick people into thinking he had a chance at winning the nomination.

I remember hearing in the '90s (probably '96) that it was risky to announce a running mate before the nomination vote, but I'm pretty sure every candidate since then has picked a running mate before the convention.

One consequence of treating politics like favorite sports teams is that even when people do correctly identify political problems they will just naively assume that their team is on the correct side of the issue www.gocomics.com/pearlsbefore...

This is also a nice reminder that when conservatives say, "Judeo-Christian" they mean "Christian," because you know nobody at Project 2025, including the person who wrote "Judeo-Christian" below, means anything but Sunday when they talk about deciding what people can & should do on the Sabbath.

No one can possibly look at the Heritage Foundation's 2025 and think, 'Gee, that's not political.' Yet - it's all done tax-free and Heritage is a nonprofit in good standing. Rich people launder their politics through nonpofits and no one says boo

Things seem bleak but it’s probably a bad sign for Republicans that people have started mentioning their actual goals and political blueprint and their response is “how fucking dare you??”

The big problem talking politics is that you can't accurately describe Republicans' plans without sounding like a conspiracy nut. Unless they go through the trouble of providing detailed descriptions of their plans and posting them on the public internet under their own names.

I remember reading an article during the 2016 primaries set in 2021 talking about how Trump had won but it wasn't really a big deal because immediately after the election all the Democrats and establishment Republicans came together and drastically curtailed the power of the executive.

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

Remember, a large portion of silent films are lost, not due to decay or fires, but because they were intentionally junked by their studios. Among the worst was Paramount, aka CBS/Paramount. People come and go. Corporate culture is forever.

Also, up until it went into receivership following the death of Dan Patch (and his owner) in 1916, it was known as the Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester & Dubuque Electric Traction Company. At which time it hadn't made it to Dubuque, Rochester, or St. Paul, and it never electrified.

The Dan Patch Line's 1908 station was at 54th St and Nicollet, just outside of the city limits, on account of being kicked out of the city and forced to give up the track they had laid inside the city limits to the TCRT. That depot was built in 1916 by the Electric Short Line Railway.
