It will never cease to amaze me how little business owners understand how their customers reach their business

50+ years of movies/tv showing people not from the city that everyone takes cabs everywhere has made too many of the people who moved there think they have to take cabs everywhere. drove my mom insane explaining to people that the subway is a perfectly cromulent mode of transport

But for generations, and to this day, cities still use books of arcane irrelevant studies that tell a business how many cars they need to accommodate per barber chair or bowling alley.

Drivers complain about traffic (sorry im late, traffic was terrible), while pedestrians and mass transit users don't because in general, those means of transportation are less prone to delays (subways don't get stuck in traffic and yes busses do, but they have schedules).

I mean, Broadway also prices their seats like everyone going to the show is flying in by personal chopper from the hamptons, so a car service from the heliport just makes sense in that context.

I know a small business owner who made some serious life decisions this year based around a certainty that the market was gonna crash. I’ll just say that as I get older, the less impressed I am with small business owners in general.

As we saw with guy who owns Pershing, they use the customers as an excuse when it’s just about the people who run it and how they get there.

You also saw this with the owner of Joe's Pizza on 14th St insisting that people were driving into the border of the East Village and Union Square for a slice and the bus lane was going to kill his business

Prejudices and 'common sense' don't give the right answers in this case. Likewise: # adding more lanes to roads slows motorized traffic # more shoe stores in the same block increase sales # customer loyalty programs increase revenue [airlines took years to figure out this one] # immigrants are bad
