Even more convinced that people are missing the most important point. This is not “an expansion of presidential authority”, it’s the Court aligning itself with a political project and faction. It’s immunity for some and not for others, depending only on the Court’s interpretation.

I disagree about CNN moderators. The format was poorly designed (2 mins on abortion rights, 2 mins on immigration, 2 mins on the attempt to overthrow Constitutional government,...). But it was Biden's job to counter Trump's lies, exaggerations, criminality, and crazy talk. Biden didn't get it done.

Yes, unfortunately. We need uniform national election standards (who's on the ballot, who can vote, access to polling places,...), and a dedicated enforcement mechanism. Rs have learned that the lack of these institutions creates an exploitable vulnerability for anti-democracy opportunists.

Good question. I was managing secretary for an Econ journal when I was in grad school (mid-to-late 1980s, so before you could rely on everyone having email), so I ought to remember. But I really don't. It definitely *wasn't* phone calls, though. Maybe it was, indeed, cold-call requests by mail.

Old guy here. It was just regular mail. The author sent hard copies to the journal, the journal sent hard copies to reviewers, and reviewers sent hard copies of reports back to the journal. Interestingly, it wasn't that much slower overall. Transmission times are a very small part of the total.
