The reason for this: they know going after Biden might yield a scalp. They know Trump is impervious to their attacks because his people don't read/believe them.

The discourse around biden needing more sleep is fully insane. Does no one remember "Executive Time," the thing Trump spent the majority(!) of his schedule on where he would just watch TV and tweet? Dude was categorically unable to fulfill any of the demands of the office and the press barely cared

They're worse than MAGA, in that they want MAGA policy but without having to say it out loud. Little do they seem to understand that to true MAGAs saying it out loud is the whole point.

But on LI taxes are high and always going higher anyway, and on the county and local gov’t level it’s usually Republicans who are the ones raising them. They may grumble while paying, but limited government isn’t their voter’s highest priority.

You can say the admin hasn’t done an incredible job touting its accomplishments and I’d agree, but what does it say when the president has done more of the things you said you wanted than any president in three generations and it doesn’t even register? And this was just as true before Gaza.

The character of the suburbs plays a big role too. A place like Texas still has those 70-30 GOP ‘burbs, where in other states similar places economically and demographically are much closer to even. That’s the evangelical influence.

Long Island Republicans are the weirdest because they’re not Republicans for religious or even economic reasons really. They just love state-enforced racism.

Correct. A prudent, law-abiding President who appoints qualified agency personnel to enact thoughtful regulations is going to see their agenda inevitably fail. A malicious, arbitrary President who runs around barking illegal commands at people will be rewarded.

Not allowed to *only* say vote. Voting by itself is not enough but no other actions are enough without voting.

a thing to remember, in all of this horror, is that these are not the actions of a political party that is confident it represents the will of the people, and who is currently out of power and enslaved to a deeply flawed avatar. the struggle is not over and they have not won

Republicans *love* celebrities, always have always will! The only reason they'd turned so viciously against Hollywood is because they were deeply hurt that there were so few famous people left who agreed with them, not because they were taking a stand against vapidity and lack of expertise, lol

It's why no new scandal ever fazes them. They decided years ago to put their faith in this guy, because of how he makes them feel, and just tuned everything else out. Classic cult behavior, it's just the scale of it that's unusual.

There are too many people who have followed him this far, who have had countless stops where they could have gotten of the train but didn't. If they started questioning their own judgement now it might literally kill them. They have to keep believing.

It's this fucked up phenomenon where if a certain threshold of people like a thing, other people feel like they have to act like there must be some validity to it. It ends up reinforcing itself, becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. It takes a huge amount of energy to fight it.

Their are a lot of negative insights that can be gleaned from Trump's popularity, but the one that's neutral and can be used for good is "never shutting the fuck up works at getting people to talk, or not talk, about what you want them to"

When I was a kid years before MAGA and was watching as much stand up on TV as I could I once saw a Black comedian who said "White guys don't like to be told what to do by anyone except older white guys" and I don't think I've ever heard a more concise summation of the movement.

My view is I don't want elected officials profiteering off their involvement in politics and government but I also think the influencer/pundit barnacles on the side of our politics profiteering off it in the private sector is even worse and even more corrosive.

I think this is half-true. They do think about that--but only from the perspective of the left getting into power. Recently there was an article with an unnamed power player who claimed with a straight face that the threat of socialism under Biden was greater than the threat of fascism under Trump.
