The obvious point of departure between the US & Israel should have been when we briefed them at length on counterinsurgency & what mistakes *we'd made* that they should avoid in invading Gaza, & the Israelis dismissed us out of hand as ignorant & naive. I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.

The biggest issue with Biden coverage is that he’s now The Story, which means that most of the press is focused on The Story and not any of the context or consequences. If we were having a serious discussion about qualifications for presidency, age, and the two main candidates, I’d be fine with it.
