Say what you will about the various Democratic party actors in the fight over whether Biden stays on the ticket, but I can understand all of their behavior much better than I can the journalists who are trying to write their way into the camps
Somebody needs to have a metaphorical sit down with the beltway press and straight up tell them that even if “the good guys” retake the country from the Republicans after their takeover, there’s no guarantee the press will have the privileges and freedoms it currently enjoys (1/2)
It so feels like Trump's comments have a shelf life but Biden's age doesn't. I know it's not true and recency bias and all, but it's not hammered home enough in news stories of Trump's rhetoric.
An interesting rhetorical shift instead of trying to justify not talking about policy differences he drastically shifted into not talking about Trump criticisms.
Biden’s bad debate is no longer new.
Trump’s refusal of a freebie prime time ABC interview is new and uncharacteristic.
Why is Trump’s campaign hiding him?
How is Trump scrambling to cope with a promised Biden resurgence?
Can Trump regain media attention when all eyeballs are on Biden?
The have Comey brain. Where they know Trump would be a huge disaster, so assume that won't happen but want to position themselves as contrarians to Biden for ego reasons.
"Because the Trump criticism is nothing new."
Maybe if they, I don't know, covered it sufficiently the first fucking time, we wouldn't be in this fucking mess.
one of the most dishonest things people in my profession do is pretend as if “the story” and “the narrative” isn’t something they have direct control over
I think this gets right to how broken the current discourse is. There are no potential alternatives who have defeated Donald Trump, & no other means to resolve the question. So they just keep spinning in wet-diapered circles
The Trump criticism isn't "new"?
That he's a criminal and SCOTUS is conspiring with him to avoid accountability?
That's not NEW?
It just happened last week!
What a slug-brain.
Both from a standpoint of informing the public, reporting the truth, and simple self-preservation, their refusal to adequately cover Trump's radicalism and the immunity decision is inexcusable
I actually genuinely think he thinks Biden can't beat Trump, and he wants to use his platform to contribute to the pressure campaign to get Biden to step down. They don't want to be in the camps but feel like a simple candidate switch is enough to prevent them.
“So much of the Trump CRITICISM is nothing new”- there has been virtually none. You’ve let his tapes, stealing documents, Jan 6, 34 count convictions, nonstop lies, just glide on by 😡
Holy shit this times 1,000. WTF sheer self preservation would think they’d change their tune as the Magas want to KILL them.
Nope. They’re useful idiots. Trump2: Better hope it’s only Orban cause I think they get Putin (out the window you go) or Xi (donations to kidney needing patients).
I see a ton of people dunking on Shafer. I’ll say that few people cover the issues and stakes as closely as Dan. He just did a podcast with Tammy Baldwin focused on child care.
I think what he’s getting at is that the political media isn’t moving on from the Biden is Old narrative any time soon.
I was trying to think of a less negative, they're chasing trends rather than they've just decided on a clear right wing bias, and that's it; they've figured the shock value of Trump and his party being literally the worst people on earth isn't novel enough to be news worthy anymore.
They don’t think the threat is real and aren’t capable of ceding authority. None of these dudes stop to think about how their implicit demand is for all of us to STFU until we die, because our deaths are the only warning they care to hear. Or how suspect it is they can’t trust minorities before that
