Thanks to John Forester and Vehicular Cyclists, the 1981 AASHTO "Green Book" essentially banned or strongly discouraged cities from installing on-street, parking protected bike lanes. It wasn't revised to include them until 2018.

Vehicular cycling is not a bad strategy in places with no bike infrastructure, but a big reason why there's no bike infrastructure in so many places — even places that would be natural fits for it — is because Forester and his disciples opposed it for decades!

no. its due to a beefed-up suspension on the car-like-truck plus a lighter weight. chassis and suspension affect towing capacity more than drivetrain because the bed has to be able to handle that kind of payload without breaking. trucks now are too heavy and offset the total payload capacity.

Slashing methane is a major climate win from Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. It’s $850 million (6% of EPA budget!) for “projects that help track — and stop — methane leaks tied to oil and gas production.” This would’ve a been career-defining win a decade ago. Now it’s Monday after holiday weekend.

i honestly think that a lot of this stuff is damaging and we see it on display all the time, but the same sorts of dangerous and violence has been on display here for hundreds of years. dont think we can blame this on a generation or recent trauma. its baked in and we havent done the work.

when someone says the court shouldnt be packed or whatever, ask them in the system of checks and balances they worship, what is the check the executive has on the court? because the answer is nominating justices to the courts.

What this article leaves out is that if you hand your unlocked phone to a police officer, they can legally search it. Unless companies develop a method that allows you to show officers insurance cards and driver license without unlocking the rest of your phone, don't.
