Once again, "the liberals made me do it." No one has agency but the Left. Poor conservatives, so helpless.

This sounds pessimistic; it’s also hopeful? Progress was made! It was hard, grinding, slow, unsteady and deadly, but it was made. Progress towards a better life is a bit like pushing back the tide. There’s always forces working against you, too. But still we go on, together, for our communities

for these people the mere presence of any nonwhite person, and especially any black person, in a desired and prestigious position is on its face evidence of anti-white discrimination and unfair preferences.

I was so pissed when they laid down that absolute turd of a story on trans kids a few years back - I'd bought subscriptions for my therapy office and for both of my parents. That one went straight in the recycling and I cancelled all three scrips the same day. They've only gotten worse.

It's part of the whole "social contagion" myth. Their kid didn't have friends, then came out as trans/nonbinary, now they have friends. Clearly the only explanation is "it must be a trend that makes you popular." Total failure of imagination in service of their prejudices.

Well you know who's notoriously sympathetic to men who try to give up some aspect of male dominance/privilege? Cis men! As we can tell from the fact that the vast majority of violence against gay men is perpetuated by... one second, I'm getting a message from my producer....

Imagine for one second if the NYT marshaled its massive influence towards voter registration, towards supporting voting rights groups, towards encouraging people to vote and fighting people who try to stop people from voting. Imagine if the NYT actually championed participatory democracy.

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

this entire crusade against diversity in hiring and admissions is based on the supposition that all white men are necessarily more qualified than any nonwhite person or woman who might be considered for the job. like, this lawsuit more or less states that outright.

You're explaining to people how ableism doesn't actually affect them as they say it does. You have an opportunity to learn something here. What you have to lose is so small, and what you have to gain is so vast, if only you'll take it.

It is *vital* to support the idea that people can walk away from repugnant views and seek to mend the harm they did instead of throwing them into living damnation. fucking stop this shit immediately. it's unacceptable. Go fix something.

1) Using violence to win is a COMPLETELY different argument than using slurs and bigotry to rhetorically attack. Thinking it’s the same issue is an extremely juvenile attitude towards it. 2) The point of opposing bigotry is to get rid of bigotry, not just change who’s doing the bigotry.

The tools of fascism are division and fear and violence. When someone starts helping with the division they are advancing the enemies cause regardless of their intent. If we are inclusive and don't let the fash break off some small group to attack then they lose.

With what, out slurring the other side? The way to beat fascism is to work together with everyone against fascism. Including groups you may not feel comfortable with. With you using ablist slurs and refusal to understand the problem, makes you unfit to join any coalition, as you refuse to learn

Not the most terrifying thing but perhaps the most infuriating: every single thing we said about these fascist Republican fucks has been proved out and all the people who assured us that what is happening would never happen smoothly pivoted to yes it's happening but it will be fine.

Yeah I've seen enough movies and TV to know that "come quietly and no one gets hurt" is almost always a lie. A person willing to use force to get their way is, at their core, a person willing to use force once they have their way.

I don't like battery caging for chickens and try to buy eggs/meat raised otherwise. Seeing dogs in battery cages breaks my heart though in a way it doesn't when it's birds. Dogs also have a connotation with giving and receiving affection for me.

Desegregation is being unraveled. Separate but β€œequal” is being reestablished. We can be defensive, or we can step up and ask for more than the preservation of the status quo.

he's fine. there's this weird pretense that the president doesn't delegate 95% of his responsibilities anyway, or that people won't step in to help him in a second term. or that a declining aging biden isn't still universes better than fascism under an also aging trump. it's not even a debate.

What an incredible sweetheart he must be. We waited almost a year to bring Eleanor Roosevelt into Koala's life, and they've been a real Odd Couple - in retrospect he probably would have preferred a couple of derpy kittens to come sit on his giant belly but he's made Ellie a more confident cat.

Isn't it interesting that they're trying to frame themselves as initiating *that* war instead of the Civil War? Wannabe Confederates still don't like being called what they are. Probably because it reminds them they lost the first time.

It helped our Koala to see Zorya's body when we had to help her pass two years ago. They were a month apart in age but were foster sibs. I think seeing her after helped him know she was gone, not lost.
