βWhat is it going to take for researchers to take ME seriously?β she and her colleagues often wondered aloud.
The morbid answer, they hypothesized, was a pandemic. π§ͺ(2/)

This months #millionsmissingflowers is a pattern inspired by Campanula patula & Moneses uniflora which are both endangered in the UK.
This pattern was created in honour of two severe ME patients Millie and Carla who are both currently in hospital struggling to get the treatment they need.

Before my February Covid infection my ME was considered βsevere,β but now Iβm in a new sub-basement with a βvery severeβ baseline where Iβm often unable to look at my phone or tolerate sound & I even struggle to chew or swallow food sometimes. Scary π©

Too sick to think of anything coherent to write about ME except to say there are so many sub-basements to this hell! And itβs honestly astonishing that bodies can go on living so long in such a jacked up state?

For April I drew the large-flowered fiddleneck (Amsinckia grandiflora), a California endangered plant native to the East Bay. Populations fell w/ European settlement of the Central Valley due to intro of non-natives, livestock overgrazing, & conversion of land for agriculture.

(A few days late but just in time for #FlowerReport!) On the last day of the month ppl w/ #MECFS & our allies are invited to share art of endangered flowers to call attention to ME & these often ignored victims of the extinction crisis.

It's important to understand that we are living in a moment when terrible things are being increasingly normalized. MK and I talk about this in Let This Radicalize You. People who reject atrocity will be increasingly criminalized and vilified in popular narratives. It's already happening.

Congratulations, @exceedhergrasp1.bsky.social!
Very hard to overstate how far the ME/CFS community has come in the last 5 years, and so much of it is due to Jaime.

In the 6th century, a sailor threw a bottle at a whale off the coast of Constantinople.
In response, the whale spent the next 50 years sinking so many ships off the Byzantine coast it was named Porphyrios after the giant who attacked Olympus & the Emperor unsuccessfully dedicated his reign against it

weirdly, these protests are giving me so much hope--they're proof you cannot slowly move the needle toward fascism and hope nobody will notice, you cannot lie and trust everyone will forget. eventually someone is going to break and today it's these kids and they're doing it for all of us, bless.

Today in @thenation.com we have a piece by Lujayn, a 14-year-old girl in Gaza, that has floored me every time I've read it. It's about what happened when an Israeli bulldozer came to destroy the house she was staying in, and you must, must, must read it. www.thenation.com/article/worl...

This morning, Democracy Now! shared this kind of beautiful
Goth(lol?) map of Gaza solidarity encampments at universities in the Eastern United States.
ofc, it's already out of date. Because UC Berkeley started its own encampment today.

Oh, this is huge. The link to the announcement itself, if you're avoiding The Bad Place: arpa-h.gov/news-and-eve... The big part of this remit: "creating indoor air biosensors to detect airborne biothreats rapidly". That means airborne virus detection.
