PDS self-hosters! we have a distro release coming soon. the first part is schema support for starter packs, a feature we just released that uses records in the PDS. second is early OAuth backend support. we don't have the atproto OAuth system documented/specified, but will be soon

I presented [[Open Source Beyond Licensing - The Evolution Ahead]] yesterday. I did a quick survey tour of some interesting licenses I like sharing, and in other ways promoted a kind of back to basics: open source is working together.

We got tricked by science fiction into thinking a futuristic city is all about flying cars and crystal towers and hologram billboards but what it really looks like is nice apartment blocks, good mass transit, pedestrian zones with shade trees and safe bike lanes.

The Farcaster network (farcaster.xyz ) has a feature called "Channels", which are sort of pre-made categories that people can put their posts into.

This sorting of posts in advance works very well.

I have heard versions of this very reasonable question many times, but it misunderstands what money is to the hyper-wealthy (aside from just how they keep score of who’s got the worst daddy issues) — it’s a *flow*, not a fixed supply. How much water is enough for a firefighter? No such thing! …

Still no option for me to submit our Threads feature to Meta for review. Tried contacting developer support but that submission fails for unknown reasons. The issue seems to be that the Meta dev dashboard is not recognizing all the successful API calls we are already making.

Finally got around to reading Geoff Huston's comprehensive, heartbreaking eulogy of DNSSEC. He takes the thought-provoking position that TLS has largely subsumed the need for DNSSEC - not perfectly, and with a somewhat different threat model, but still. Great networking neckbeard reading, as always.

@rudyfraser.com saw that you've got a rusty PDS implementation in the works - are there any bits I could contribute to, that you'd want to offload? I'd love to help out a bit!

Thanks for the great write-up, @eff.org!

Curate the experience you want:
• Custom feeds. You choose the algorithm, not the other way around.
• Stackable moderation. Layer additional moderation services on top of each other.

It's super interesting to me how kagi search changes the funding model and is now starting to build their own browser, Orion (on WebKit).

Finally, how do we change these dynamics to form a new, holistic definition of progress that accounts for the connectedness of our planet to the health of our minds, bodies, and communities?

The full paper discussed in this episode will be available on consilienceproject.org in the near future.

What are the implications when only victors of history write the narratives of progress and define societal values? What are the value systems embedded in our institutions and policies, and how do they reinforce the need for ongoing growth at the expense of the natural world and human well-being?

Current mainstream narratives sell the story that progress is synonymous with betterment, and that the world becomes better for everyone as GDP and economies continue to grow. Yet, this is an incomplete portrayal that leaves out the dark sides of advancement.
