The Northwestern lawsuit is an example of the White gaze in action: “White gaze is the operational norm of White space wherein Black people are scrutinized through the lens of Whiteness, resulting in their exclusion, subordination, and objectification.”

I get it. My wife hates using the phone so much she would rather text an emergency rather than call 911.

This is one of the most dystopian signs I've ever seen. Republicans are quickly turning this country into an unrecognizable freakshow.

Given the Supreme Court decision on immunity today, I would say political rivals of the President should avoid open windows. It is astonishing to me that assassinating a political rival in the name of “national security” may warrant absolute immunity.

It is a two-box day at SCOTUS, so we are expecting up to four decisions. There are four cases remaining, including Trump immunity and the APA accrual rule case. The NetChoice cases out of Florida and Texas could come as one or two decisions. Here we go.

I wrote to the Tractor Supply board today. Here is what I sent. Even if you've only ever bought one thing there, I encourage you to write, as a customer.

“…. the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump.

Trump, 78, has been on the political stage for eight years marked by chaos, corruption, and incivility. Why go back to that?”

I'mma say this for all the people in the back. Don't vote for a person. Vote for your rights, for the rights of others. On page 5 of Project 2025's 180-day plan they openly call for outlawing porn, recommending imprisoning anyone who creates it. Are you an NSFW artist, or like the art? THIS IS YOU.

It's important that all these moves are transferring power to not only the least democratic branch of government, but also the least representative one

If it doesn’t already exist, could #LawSky build a website with all of Trump’s & Trump Org’s court cases starting with the consent decree for discrimination and including his bankruptcies through today? I’d like every time I hear “Biden Crime Family” tonight.

Or does it already exist?

What a sad statement about where we are right now.

"Today, the creation of a makeshift memorial in the wake of a school shooting might be expected, but then it was still a novelty, the beginning of a new American ritual."

Excited to introduce a project I've been working on for a long time: a thorough comparison of Biden and Trump on the issues. "The stakes, not the odds," to borrow from Jay Rosen. The initial version has 6 topics, but I'll be adding more, as well as updating with new statements/policies. Gift link:

Every since I read this ProPublica piece a few years ago, I use this "pretend we're talking about a guy named Bob" test all the time. (Here it's about antitrust, but it's useful everywhere.)

Threats to Pride events this year may seem to be the work of individuals—people who might not be immediately linked to a well-known group—but these attacks on queer and trans community are not isolated. This is political violence, not individual resentment. My new piece:

There shouldn't be a big "unless they are incarcerated" asterisk to the ban on slavery in the US. Incarcerated individuals should be paid for their work.

The current practice is a moral abomination, it sets people up for failure upon release, and it undercuts labor. www.nytimes.com/2024/06/19/o...
