(It has not seemed plausible to me then or since that Rs will start wanting to govern instead of gripe)
Very proud to have voted yes on the ballot measure that made this happen. Do your job, assholes. The idea is for the minority party to still have a voice and a role in the process. Not for the minority party to drive the entire process to a halt indefinitely.
A fair number of moderate Republican voters were also sick of this shit because these stunts meant nothing got done! Roads went unpaved! Schools went unrenovated!

As a lawyer, I was pulling my hair out the moment I saw the language of the amendment. How did it get all the way through a whole election without anyone realizing the drafting was busted? I think the court got it right by “fixing” it, but geez, guys!

What's important to know here is that a handful of Rs held up 100s of bills they knew they were out-voted on by leaving the state. This wasn't a one-time thing. So voters passed this measure. And then they did it again, expecting to get away with it.
But they didn't.
i legit didnt think they’d experience any consequences for their tantrums bc they’ve been doing this for years now. it’s actually hysterical but i’m so used to politicians getting away with murder that i’m too shocked to even laugh about it.
I'd appreciate it if we changed our quorum rules so we're not such a goddamn outlier and 50%+1 ruled the day...but this was still immensely satisfying (OR has a relatively easy ballot initiative process for amending our state constitution so if we get another clowncar of GOP reps, this is fixable)
Yup, we passed that ballot measure requiring that they attend the sessions they were elected to attend and they chose to deny a quorum rather than do their jobs. Sometimes I'm really proud of my state.
Obstructionists deserved removal. IIRC, the bill passed by a strong majority. Prior year (?) they made a deal to come back if 2 bills were delayed a year. They broke their word, ran off again. It only takes ~5 to block a vote, I thought they would do the math and keep their jobs. Guess not.
