like, why is anyone treating this like a serious proposal? the trump department of labor wanted to make it easier for employers to steal tips for christssake! he has an actual record!
Additionally, no one seems to question why Trump presented this idea to a group of millionaires rather than to the workers who rely on tips. The reason is clear: the plan benefits the owners more than the workers.
If trump (or biden) really cared, they'd amend the laws to force the states to stop allowing employers to deduct average/expected tips from workers' minimum wages
Just putting it out there.
I think it all comes out of the assumption that Trump has no principled positions on anything, so policy-wise, he is a tabula rasa who could be for or against anything on any given day.
I’m just thankful you and many others are going crazy with it all too. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve yelled out, “ What the fuck is happening? “Have they
Lost their damn minds?”
Convicted felon Donald Trump also proposed bleach enemas and horse dewormer as treatments for COVID-19, so to say that I'm skeptical is an understatment.
That, and there's the whole "Companies should pay their workers living wages and not pass the buck to consumers" root problem.
Yes, it makes you want to scream. It's as if reporting is a DEAD LETTER. There is always so much missing context and information from every news story.
I can't figure out why anyone treats anything he proposes seriously. He always contradicts himself later. I think he even claimed he never said Mexico would pay for his wall.
This is all about him again. If, and only if . . . Putin, Xi, KJU, they can give lots of gratuity to TFG and he doesn't have to pay taxes on it. Everything he does is always about him. There is no generosity involved.
God damn the goddamn fucking horse race press to hell and beyond!!! This isn’t some game without consequences!!! Where are the 10,000 articles about what a goddamn lying menace that asshole is??? Complacency is the enemy of the people!!!
Reporters got hooked on the daily amnesia pills they took all during the Trump administration. The only way to fit commentary on Trump into a news-shaped vessel is to studiously ignore everything you know about him
It's just pointless pandering for votes and he has no intent to follow through with it, yet he's just allowed to lie by the media and they amplify his lies
But it's important to remember that the Trump of their own imaginations has never been President. It would be unfair to judge and punish a dream for the failure of reality.
As the SC just decided giving a politician 13 grand after he'd passed a law favoring you was "just a tip", it's obvious Trump's goal is to make sure he doesn't pay taxes when he's bribed.
It’s not serious. A serious proposal would be abolishing tipping as the barbaric practice it is and paying service workers the same wages other hourly workers get.
we are in the midst of the trump normalization cycle. hopefully the debate will show him for what he is, but it has led to a spate of stories treating his "policies" as something to compare to democratic platforms.
Absolutely - both the overview of "said a lotta things he then didn't do" and the specifics of his record on issues seem VERY relevant in assessing him as a candidate.
