New TWIBS! Assigned Media's @alyssaur.bsky.social writes for about Keir Starmer and the UK elections.

Says here the ascendent labor party and the defeat of the Tories in no ways spells relief for the battered and beleaguered transgender community of TERF Island.

Dang it!

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

So the Gilbert Baker Foundation is demanding money from small time queer creators because they correctly referenced a specific color scheme as "the Gilbert Baker flag" on their site?

Doxxing is serious, but the potential harms arising from the frictionless access of personal information on the NZ Companies Register is not something I've seen the consideration it demands from policymakers or even media. This is esp. so for transgender, GLBTIQA+ people, & others already at risk.

The New Zealand Companies Register remains deeply problematic in the post-infodemic rise of doxxing individuals from academia, health sector, politicians, judiciary, media, & what I studied today - from the transgender community. For years, no one saw database as an issue in a high trust society.

If your area got a new Labour MP then it is your duty to email them and say that you are happy the Tories are out but that transphobia should have no place in the party. Make Starmer gently walk back his support for Rowling's position!

It seems that the UK are getting rid of the Tories, but they are replacing them with a "at least we're not them" labour government. AoNZ need to pressure our opposition parties to give us something to vote for, rather than expecting us to simply vote against the other clowns. Start now dickheads!

Been turning this over in my mind for a bit: I support people going hard criticising David Seymour for Snapchatting teens. At the same time bc of the rightwing groomer panic I would like people to be very clear that there are many kinds of interaction which are *inappropriate* but not *sexual*.

To address just risks, and threats articulated by Aliya, you need to acknowledge they exist, morph, & grow. I see no evidence - none, whatsoever - the incumbent government understands this, and worse, is interested or invests in gaining an understanding of these challenges. Therein lies the rub.

The Cass Review will undoubtedly add numbers to that list of people who have lost their lives. It's an absolute tragedy and should be an absolute disgrace to the NHS.

- those who were referred waited two years for an assessment, before only 27% of them were referred to endocrinology after an average of 6.7 appointments with multiple month waits in between. Meanwhile, at least 16 people have lost their lives on that wait list.

- in fact, referrals plateaued and even decreased from 2018, but Cass double-counted referrals and baselessly called it an "exponential increase" - only 10% of trans young people in England had been offered a referral to a gender service

- instead it limited care to research settings that do not yet exist - the Review held focus groups with cis people without clarifying their expertise - 32% of these people believe there is "no such thing as a trans child" - Cass' own data shows there is no "exponential" increase in referrals

- the Review chose to selectively examine the supposed harms of gender affirming care, while ignoring the significant harms of not providing treatment - the Review ignored the views of the trans people it spoke with, who expressed a need for better access to care

Hot takeaways: - the Cass Review did not call for a ban on gender affirming care, and should not be cited in support of these bans - the Review talked about GRADE, and used the words "poor" and "weak" over 30 times, but did not evaluate evidence using GRADE

Given Govt policies of late, incl. the Foreign Minister regularly appearing on, & partial to platform that amplifies ChCh killer's violent ideology, I openly ask if New Zealand's intelligence agencies are doing their job, & if they are, if political leaders are listening. I just can't figure it out.

Seed, & spread of ChCh killer's video, year-on-year, shows *11X-12X* increases. Nuts. New copies had been uploaded just few days prior. Full length, unedited versions of video were on platform(s) the SPLC report hadn't flagged in its research/report - which means their software hadn't it picked up.

A year hence, it's worse. I studied by order of magnitude more content in ~10hrs than DIA's 2023 DVE report flags around the ChCh livestream video. The point is a simple one. NZ's apex agency studying online harms, & by extension, NZ's govt, seemingly clueless how bad diffusion of video really is.
