I wrote a case study about a machine learning company working on reading X rays/CT scans, and a HUGE problem with this type of process is how hard it is to find training materials for things that aren’t clear cut. We don’t really need AI that can identify obvious negatives and positives.

A grim thing about transitioning is knowing that cis people in whisper networks are like "eh, he's a man now so he isn't vulnerable". Sometimes it's even a weird 'gender affirmation' where they're like "but if you're more vulnerable than a cis man then that's saying you aren't a man!" 🙄

this is a major problem with coverage of alcohol's public-health profile. i'm sympathetic to and interested in the case against the "red wine paradox" etc, but the relative scope of individual harm is often wildly out of whack with the outlet's framing, to no one's benefit.

this telescope was gifted to NASA by the NRO, which had it left over & sitting in a clean room since the late 90s (I think). What is the NRO & why do they have better telescopes than astronomers? Well, it’s a spy agency & there are 16 of these in orbit for the past 2 decades pointing down at Earth 😬

Yeah I'm really grateful for US work on race theory but I also decided that I had to look at theory from other places as well. If you're interested in what I cited I would start with Laclau's book "Emancipation(s)" (you'll need to find a PDF), esp Chapter 2, it's less dense 🤣

I was one of the many who spoke at the select committee yesterday about how deeply harmful this Bill is. Children as young as 12 could face 10 year sentences. It was heartening to see just how much opposition there was, but I'm not sure how much hope there is that the govt will drop the Bill.
