The thing I can't stop thinking about is this: I'm 48, and in my adult lifetime there has been one Republican who won the popular vote. But I will probably spend the rest of my life under the authority of a Supreme Court dominated by hard right conservatives. How is that democracy?

The reason pundits like the contested convention thing is that it plays to their vanities: what if the smart people made a meritocratic decision about who’s best? This is driven, in part, by being mostly isolated from negative reactions to their opinions over the years.

Yes, this is the point. The state could fund actual public schools adequately, but voucher proponents explicitly don't want to do that. They want dollars to follow students out of the public schools; they want to gut public institutions. www.inquirer.com/education/pe...

As for the Euros, Ingerland were dire today, and France were, shall we say, unconvincing. Spain have been the class of the tournament so far, with Portugal and Austria also playing well. I doubt that all the pre-tournament hype teams will make it past the first elimination round.

Someone asked if AI / LLMs would make my research easier by, e.g., helping me to collate large volumes of research instantly, sparing me a lot of grind & struggle. I told them that struggling w/ the research is actually essential to forming the insights that make the project interesting or valuable.

Not going to fully rehash this for the 100th time, but yes, civil disobedience by def is unlawful. Universities and many other institutions have since the 60s permitted a certain level of civil disobedience so as to avoid students being killed by cops and seeming draconian. This spring was a shift.
