Since I'm here ruining dreams: I wonder if people would take climate change more seriously if they knew warmer temperatures were helping spread a tik that if it bites you means you can't eat red meat without anaphylasxis
Have a friend that got bit, probably in North Carolina, it's not as bad as anaphylasxis for him, but basically the worst food poisoning you can think of. It also knocked dairy off the menu for him. It's been 2ish years since that happened.
Yeah it's already got pretty crazy here in Mississippi. I never heard of it before I moved here. But I have a friend who's husband had it for years and just now can start eating meat. We're suspectimh my spouse might have it now as she's been feeling ill the last few times we ate meat. So many ticks
My colleague in Indiana got one, can't eat red meat anymore. Now the lone star tick is here in Ottawa County, Michigan and spreading north. www.wzzm13.com/article/news...
i live in a place that's been invaded by ticks (not this kind i hope) sice our winters changed, and it's absolutely no fun at all.
last week i got a tick on my phone just from standing in my door opening to take pics of a hailstorm.
(and this is why i can't just go touch grass: there are ticks)
Sooo actually I’m trying to get funding for a tick surveillance project, and this is one of the arguments I’m using in my proposal. EVERYONE hates ticks.
Interestingly, one of the leading Long Covid researchers has this. She’s also started a center at Yale to study post-acute infectious syndromes—it makes me think her experience is why she could grasp the concept of LC.
It’s interesting how these issues are knit together.
I had that allergy for a few years, it is no fun at all. Some people react to dairy in addition to meat, or just the fumes of the meat cooking. There's an acupuncture treatment that can put it into remission, but it's not 100%.
I know it's a serious issue but my reducetarian ass still finds it funny. like Look! A rare negative feedback loop in the climate system! I thought they were just a myth
Hotter temperatures -> more ticks -> more red meat allergies -> less red meat consumption -> less upward pressure on temps
