Fascism needs its enemies fighting each other, threatening each other with it, propping it up to bludgeon each other with.
The last thing a fascist wants is the white moderate to tell the communist "ok I still hate you but first we're gonna have to beat this nazi to death with a hammer"

There's much about his work and his contributions to culture and support of other artists I have admired and respected. Over time there have been several things that looked to me like yellow flags. Always an icky feeling when that is validated.

I swear I saw a mention of allegations against him 3+ years ago, and then nothing. Zero. Silence. So I've been wondering whether I imagined it, but I knew if I hadn't that it would show up again.
Sigh.

Not for nothing but the big 4th of July carnival was tonight, and in the reddest rural district in Maryland, two days after their guy was given unconditional immunity by his hand-picked judges, after a week of coordinated effort by NYT to undermine his opposition, there was not a MAGA hat in sight.

The fact that there are few places in the US to comfortably sit and watch life happening makes having a really great vacation here challenging.

We're going to do an episode on Project 2025 on what's at stake for transportation and climate if Trump wins and it's very, very bad. Will make the Elaine Chao USDOT era look positively progressive by comparison.

the media, led by the Times, has done to Biden what they did to Claudine Gay at Harvard
there is no way to convince the public, because the people who he needs to convince to do that (the media) are never going to tell the public that he’s fine
I think dropping out is a when, not if at this point

Okay folks.
In the absence of my eventual guide to alt text for images of text on social media, a reminder:
Do not put URLs (aka links to webpages) in alt text. They don't work and they will often get read out letter by letter.
Especially do not put a URL in alt text in the place of alt text.

Groundbreaking idea: Fitness watches need a setting for 'my tummy hurts' or 'I am clearly chummy with shark week' or 'I'm obviously ill, you aggressively upbeatbutthole' so that when you can't just get up and move, the watch instead says something soothing, like, "You're doing your best, sweetie."

It is infuriating. I assumed that surely by now (if not a year ago) doctors would be prescribing Metformin for anyone with SARS-CoV-2 who could take it. It's an affordable drug that is safe for many people to take-- why wouldn't that be a thing? (Alas . . . )

53% of children followed from birth through age 15 experienced some form of (mostly temporary) housing insecurity. All children who experienced any level of - even temporary - housing insecurity had worse physical & mental health outcomes, with more housing instability correlating to worse health.

let me put this another way: despair, or its new name, doomerism, asserts omniscience--that things cannot be better, that all possibilities of good are already foreclosed, that you can know this as fact. it looks like humility, but it's all ego. it is, in fact, the assumption of godhood.

And when people keep paying you more than you’re charging, RAISE YOUR PRICES.
Also super low prices undercut other artists, so it’s good for everyone to charge a fair rate!

if you’re commissioning someone and they give you prices that are too low you can absolutely just say “no, i’m giving you more money than that”
and you fucking should

my advice to everyone is just make something analog, doesn't matter what, just create something new with your hands and brain
doesn't need to be inspired, doesn't need to be good even- just making something flips switches in your brain and makes life better

Mildred Thornton Stahlman, a name (and a piece of medical history) that I should have known but did not.
What a remarkable life.
