A lovely Appalachian leftist on TikTok said that folks always talk about what radicalized them in terms of theory, struggle, or rage. But, he says, what about the soft things that radicalized us, too? Grammas that kept us fed, bees, flowers, friends being happy when they could make ends meet?

I don't like the policies of the Reagan era, but the nation survived I detest defending that administration--but why is there a different standard for Democrats? Especially when a Trump dictatorship is at stake? Makes zero sense. And Biden is much better shape than the Gipper.

Did the electorate abandon him in this crucial moment when the US could snuff out Hitler's Third Reich? No, they did not. If you're talking "replace Biden" now, I have a question: why are you so much weaker than voters in 1944? Would you have handed over the White House to the America Firsters?

Tempted to propose a nostalgia progressive platform, starting with public pools and libraries being open every day and for reasonable hours. Oh, and keeping national parks, since apparently that's up for discussion. Things that don't cost much and make life nicer. Anything else I should add to it?

Good reporting on an entirely predictable problem. Fun fact: Airbnb also covers up thousands of sexual assaults every year! Its internal safety team has "cool-down rooms" to take a break from the trauma of what they hear. It's a bad company, a bad industry, and people should just stay in hotels.

After decades of activism, Joe Biden’s administration finally was the one to ban USDA’s Wildlife Services division from deploying cyanide bombs on federal BLM lands. These things have killed pets and injured recreationists, and killing carnivores is bad policy anyway. Biden got it done.

Reps. Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush and AOC have all put out "Biden is the nominee, support him" statements. The left-most part of the Democratic Party fighting to keep him while the right-most part—centrists, swing district Reps, NeverTrumpers, etc.—push for him to drop out was not on many Bingo cards.

The common sense last red line should always have been “when they openly admit their intentions in public under their own names.” Saw a Heritage Project 2025 guy last week publicly calling to repeal the 20th century and get rid of the Civil Rights Act. Can’t get much clearer than that

The whole premise of Project 2025 is that they’re going to short circuit Congress and make it so Trump is the ultimate authority on “can they do that,” everything else follows from that premise. Can they short circuit a gridlocked Congress? Will the Supreme Court permit it? Yes, and yes

The claim that “everyone saw the debate and turned on Biden” seems to be entirely a narrow phenomenon of only a segment of the elite, the same ones sucking all the oxygen out of the room to discuss anything else. I have yet to see a single poll showing him drop out of the margin of error.

The only way to take the party left, BTW, because I know whose saying shit like this, is to retain power, take more, and obtain a greater voice for that wing of the coalition in a government they helped create. There's no universe where a loss takes this party anywhere but to the right.

What this article leaves out is that if you hand your unlocked phone to a police officer, they can legally search it. Unless companies develop a method that allows you to show officers insurance cards and driver license without unlocking the rest of your phone, don't.

Everyone knows what to do about it. Describe the situation to a 5yo and they'll tell you what to do about it. Hell, ask a LLM what to do about it and it'll tell you "stop using the power-hungry AI." Just because corporations don't like the obvious solution to a problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

And conversely, the bad days don’t negate the better ones! It’s hard for people to understand dynamic disabilities because they think of illness as a light switch- you’re “healthy” or you’re not. It doesn’t suit that internal narrative to acknowledge that things change day by day.

People cannot seem to understand--or refuse to understand--that not all disability is static. With many conditions, some days are better than others. That doesn't negate the disability. It doesn't make the shitty days not count anymore.
