“AI” is the culmination of the tech industry. Every time you use it, you destroy the environment, erode labor protections, endanger workers overseas, enrich the ruling class, and make something unforgivably worthless, all at the same time – and it's all hidden from you in a frictionless distraction.

Look at me. Listen to me: If someone is selling you a "search" & "knowledge" "AI" product they claim is smarter & better & faster than you, but it literally cannot be guaranteed to give you simple true facts about consensus reality when asked, then that product DOES NOT WORK and SHOULD NOT BE USED.

Even for people who are not opposed to the use of AI images, being able to identify them is very important for this reason.

Sure it sounds good on the surface, but you have to remember that trade is fundamentally based on the transportation of goods and services (people). If we create free and convenient transportation we'll be stuck with an increase in trade and economy. Is that really a consequence we can live with?

Tech companies scraping the web for content and using their generative bullshit to kill off the sites they stole from until there's nothing left to scrape and it all starts to consume itself in an ouroboros of putrid, decaying pixels and code is the internet's "not with a bang but with a whimper"

Generative "A.I." is known to create bullshit the industry calls "hallucination." That's unacceptable for any critical service. Ban generative "A.I." government services. Ban generative "A.I." in education. Ban generative "A.I." in medicine and finance. Ban generative "A.I." in journalism.

One of my favorite words. Especially in current times, as the creative process is seen as an obstacle to results. "Autotelic" beautifully captures the essence of art created for its own sake, and the joy and fulfillment that come from the creative process itself rather than any external reward. 💙

This'll be great for abusers to make sure their victims aren't accessing supports online or have separate bank accounts. Or parents making sure their kids aren't thinking undesirable thoughts and feelings in any web searches or communications. Another great, well thought out decision by Microsoft.

Consider my mind boggled. In 1968, Columbia demonstrators literally held a Dean *hostage* for 26 hours, and not only did he not retaliate after being released, HE WROTE SOME OF THEM REFERENCE LETTERS.

But now it is just straight to the cops.

In the Spring of 1864 Twain, while working as a beat reporter for the SF Morning Call, Twain witnessed the murder of a Chinese laborer by a mob that included cops. It radicalized him. He wrote it up, one of the first things he ever authored which he thought deserved to be called “literature”… 2/

So many people trying to be "moderate" and "fair-minded" by saying "well of course there are some good uses of LLMs" No, there are not. They are machines designed to make up plausible-sounding lies at immense environmental cost.
