There's a lot of good advice around for folks looking to start a webcomic, and I maintain the most important one is to tell a story/draw characters you're actually passionate about! If you draw whatever is popular now but you yourself don't care about it, you'll eventually hate working on it 😤

for comics: generally, characters can only take ONE action per panel. If your script has someone walk into a room, pick up a pencil and start writing in one panel, that's going to be impossible to draw* *some exceptions apply.

If you don't have a standard go-to comic script format, Camilla Zhang and Steenz built this very useful format! Highly recommend! I use a slightly simplified version of it, and it is highly adaptable to your needs.

But seriously though, it was really fun and I had a great time! I tend to underestimate my own capabilities to the point of causing myself unnecessary stress/anxiety. So trying new things helps a lot, bc 9 times out of 10, it turns out fine and there was nothing to worry about ☺️

I did some layout analysis for different comics, and then I figured they’d probably be helpful for other people too. It’s really interesting how cartoonists can use different methods to create a sense of subjectivity or wrongness or slow time.
