The NYT Parkinson's "scoop" is even worse than it seems from the headline, bc buried in paragraph 11 the reporters *know* Dr. Connard met with someone other than Biden, and on March 28, 2024 the President's Public Schedule shows Biden was in NYC the whole day

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

We can measure the rank dishonesty of the CNN anchors saying their agreed-upon job was only to ask question, not fact-check, this way: “Isn’t that a lie?” and “That claim has been disproven, hasn’t it?” are reasonable questions.

Both the “black jobs” remark and using palestinian as a slur are hopefully clarifying as to actual Trump’s ideology and worldview, in contrast with the imaginary trump some people have built up in their heads as the memory of his administration has receded

I am so sorry about your friend's awful loss. People can get hurt, too. About 9 years ago I broke a shoulder when a neighbor's unleashed dog attacked my leashed dogs. My dogs pulled me right over, and I fell with an outstretched arm.

I was thinking again about that terrible Apple commercial . It shows machines gleefully crushing everything human and tangible. But it also suggests a zero-sum mindset--"in order to make something new, an old thing must be destroyed"--that feels endemic to the tech industry, and is also 100% false.

Someone on here (I wish I remembered so I could give credit) recently described AI: "It's not a knowing things machine. It's a saying things machine." And that comes to mind every time I see something like this. It knows how to imitate human speech. It doesn't know anything about anything else.
