Um, which part of sleeping with an adult film actress and then paying her off to be quiet during your presidential election (both of which happened before you were President), and then falsifying the business records is an official presidential act? www.nytimes.com/2024/07/01/n...
The official presidential (running for) act. If you can't run president without committing a crime for fear of consequences, how can we have democracy?
all of it, very much Presidential, in thought as well as deed.
imho, if Cohen could do three years for the crimes that DJT asked him to commit in this instance, it stands to reason that DJT should be sentenced to just as much time..... excuse me, there I go being rational again :-)
I'm sitting here on the other side of the planet wondering if the USA will self-combust if the orange one falls down the stairs and breaks his neck.
What's happening is just absolutely unbelievable to the point of "Will this infect my country, or are we too late?"
Trump also wasn’t convicted in New York of breaking a Federal law. He was convicted of breaking a New York State law for covering up what he believed was breaking a Federal law. Doesn’t matter if he is found immune to the Federal charge that hasn’t been filed.
This will be a good test of the 'rule for the ages'
The false business records themselves were all created while he was president (Feb '17 onward), because the payments had to stay hidden until after the election
We'll see if we have a retroactive coronation once this is settled
The actual meaning of the ruling is bad enough, but Trump seems to have interpreted it according to its even worse subtext, which is "my minions in the supreme court majority will let me do anything I want and grant me any favor I request"
I reckon the Supreme Court will actually reject this appeal, and then use it to claim balance and impartiality when they toss out the other cases against him
