Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise
Dems should have rammed through making voting a paid national holiday, ranked choice and compulsory.
After that, they should have expanded the Supreme Court, abolished the electoral college, and on and on.
The problem is Dems never think Republicans could "be that bad". Look at Roe v Wade...
Are you truly prepared to "keep him out of the white house" for eternity? Every election year, doing more of the same because the system is broken, and those you vote for taking your vote as validation to keep the broken system. Does this feel viable?
I don’t know how to tell people that Joe Biden stone cold dead in a coffin is a better choice than Trump. At least his pallbearers will care a bit about democracy.
Trump is a disaster which will be recounted 2000 years from now.
Well, you certainly need a president who won't take up SCOTUS's offer and start breaking laws to impose his own will.
One of the problems needing fixing is SCOTUS, that's for damn sure.
Agreed. There seem to be a lot of people either Choose Your Own Adventuring this fact away or who are so steeped in unacknowledged privilege that they don't understand this fact.
I agree completely. So much Democrats need to do better and change. But the heritage foundation is threatening bloodshed and Trump wants to round people up and neither is playing. Maybe we focus on keeping Trump out of office no matter what for now.
During Trump's time in office I was coming up with Post Trump reforms that I hoped Dems would implement once he was finally gone. No dice on that, as yet.
Trump must be defeated. But if he wins, it isn't the end of America. We survived the JFK/RFK/MLK assassinations in one decade; Nixon/Watergate; 8 years of Reagan (where the MAGA shit started); a Bush the Elder term; Bill and Monica; 9/11 & Iraq war under G.W. Bush; and an insane Trump term.
it is astounding how people are interpreting that as "Katie thinks Biden is perfect, time to have a go at Katie" when you have said the opposite. I'm so sorry about your replies.
*nodnods*
I’m not head-over-hooves in love with the current administration, but letting the Republicans into the White House would be like pouring gasoline onto the fire.
Especially so now that they’ve primed the courts and made a plan, and seemingly won’t be hamstrung by their own incompetence.
With Biden there is no stopping him. The election was lost the moment he decided to run. It will be catastrophic, but please try to preserve yourself and focus on how we endure and resist.
People keep telling me "Donnie is a distraction from the real threat: Project 2025, & the Heritage Foundation will keep trying" & I'm like yeah, sure but you *do* get that if Donnie wins, they won't need to keep trying because they'll have succeeded…
…Right?
*crickets*
…Right?
Just immediate problems in US health insurance cost/access: ACA repealed (45 million uninsured) Medicare/Medicaid gone or sunsetting (82 million people), which will drive up costs for the remaining insured and bankrupt many hospital systems and cause hospital closures.
“Orange Man Bad” has always been an insufficient and facile analysis of American politics, but it is in fact true that the Orange Man is in fact very Bad.
I’m thinking right now, with some sadness, you could have written this post in 2020. Maybe you did, maybe others have. I will rebound, I’m just there yet.
It's simple. Even if you assume Trump's ascension will be followed by free and fair elections, every Republican president drags the country's *baseline* to the right, and downwards, making any future action harder, and more futile.
Without exception. Every time. It just gets harder, never easier.
Apathy has been the ruination of nations many times in history. The masses won't learn from history if they are too indifferent or apathetic to learn it to begin with.😒
When did people give up on the Democratic Party so completely that they started blaming the voters instead? Sorry people don’t want 2020 part 2 and sorry your precious Biden didn’t put enough protections in place to prevent fascism after people DID vote for him 4 years ago. But sure run it back
I can envision some travelers passing by our planet and wondering if they should stop to visit or keep going. We are not thinking about 'the planet' as a whole system. Nor are we paying much attention to what we're doing to it. We should. Too many of us aren't encouraged to think that way.
What’s so shocking about the immunity ruling is it demonstrates that SCOTUS is actually worse than Trump. Because they actually know how to do fascism and can make it happen. There is now this whole new fascism vector.
Exactly this. 💯. Keeping Trump out keeps things from getting significantly worse, but it is less than the absolute bare minimum of what needs to be done at this point.
Seriously. Reelecting Biden won't magically solve everything, but left-wing activism will probably be easier and safer if the executive branch is under Democratic control.
I don't have faith in the Democrats to actually accomplish that and I'm terrified of the fact that no one seems to have any plan for what will happen if he gets in the White House.
Will it be four years of people telling everyone to vote better next time and not to be so violent at protests?
It sucks, and it sucks that it is almost always like this but we will all have to put aside any reservations about the genocide in Gaza, or the fact Biden is the cryptkeeper.
They always say its the most important election. This is insanely important. Just vote blue.
Many Americans take our democratic values for granted. We've had these values our entire lives, so people may self-defend against feeling alarmed.
Agreed that getting out the small-d democratic vote in battleground states to defeat an unscrupulous demagogue is Priority No. 1.
Thanks for posting this, I found so many people to block in the replies. In every single category Trump would do *much worse* things than Biden. The SC has laid out the red carpet for Trump to do anything his angry brain comes up with, and we can't allow it or we will lose our rights to seek change.
