Wonder how much time's left on the clock until Munich Re blows the whistle? FWIW as a consultation-liaison consultant to med/surg inpatient teams at UCLA from 92-03, even then neurologists/neurosurgeons said they would never OK their kids playing tackle football, soccer w headers, etc. No brainer.

Gender affirming care: "No! we must protect the vulnerable children because they cannot make such choices with their bodies" Sports directly leading to brain damage in children: "Yes! People are free to choose what their children do to their bodies"

Isn't this what LBJ said about Gerald Ford? Might explain a lot about American public life.

Yeah I was talking to someone the other day about this. Fixing NFL helmets and protocols is great, well done. But we have to do fix every single youth to college program in the country for it to make a real difference outcomes. By the time they hit NFL they have about 15-20 years damage already.

"We can't let kids make life altering decisions at that age!" they scream about trans kids while cheering on their kid's brain damage at the football game.

There's just no reason why HS and below can't play flag games, none outside of greed and toxic masculinity.

It is honestly amazing that no school district has moved yet to remove football. Any student injury is bad, but it kind of feels like brain damage is directly antithetical to the core mission of a school

Wow. Not very surprising. Would be curious to see potential impact of other contact sports too — hockey, soccer, hoops, etc.

I went to high school in Texas. My pet theory is Texas-standard toxic masculinity, especially the predilection to violence, is exacerbated by all the football brain injury. Not the only factor, by far, but a common one.

Whatever happened to those helmets with soft exteriors. Guardian caps. Aren’t they proven to reduce this? Don’t they wear them in practice for that very reason? I don’t know this hospital but it seems fine. And yet.
