Chronic illness life:
Have a little sulk as you organize all the things you don't have the energy to deal with.
Spend your morning tidying so you can effectively vacuum.
Run out of energy to vacuum.
Spend a couple hours breathing, trying to rest and regain enough steam to clean more.

Saul shares the different grape clusters in the vineyards of Bakersfield CA. These grapes will be fully ripened in the next couple of weeks, depending on the temps each day. The trick is to allow them to ripen w/o getting sun burned. Temps today are predicted at 110° #WeFeedYou

Female high sheriffs get excellent hats. Seriously, when we cast off the king, I understand why we ditched many of the office regalia like robes and chains of office, but couldn't we have kept the hats?

Wow, thank you for sharing. Sometimes the solution may be unusual or feel silly, but really, why not? Letting go of whatever is "the right and only way to be," is wonderful.

I have also been working on cultivating the act of saying "fuck it". The first time I did, thanks to a therapist's encouragement, was on an overcrowded subway car.
I flapped my arms for the first time in *decades*.
Someone moved a bit so I wasn't quite so crammed.
I cried with joy and relief.

How else would I remember that mice are feminine but cats and monkeys are masculine if not for, "La souris est sous la table, le chat est sur la chaise, et le singe est sur la branche."

I swear, every time someone sends me an article from that publication I wince because I know it's going to be absolute nonsense.
I'm already dealing with people who don't want to vaccinate against distemper and parvo. (Please do. They can kill, quickly.)
But rabies? That's a new low.

100% and there ARE domestic shibas (and other dogs) that need new homes. If you want a purebred pet, ask a breed rescue or a reputable breeder. (Reputable breeders take dogs back when appropriate and also have or know of older dogs that didn't quite mature in the way we had hoped.)

FRANCE UPDATE: The near-final list of candidates who are in the French runoffs is out.
Two days ago, 311 districts were going to have 3-way or 4-way runoffs.
Then, 200+ candidates dropped out to block far-right.
So: There'll be "just" 91 such runoffs this coming Sunday.

It’s Disability Pride Month and people are still using ableist language to describe people and things they don’t like. With zero internal examination about why they equate intellectual disability with being bad. 🤗

I've always wondered if refs occasionally have a strong personal opinion about a particular team/country, can it be discerned from their calls? (Except for figure skating, where bloc voting seems to be irrepressible.)

Living under authoritarian regimes is both relatively boring and normal AND incredibly corrosive to the human soul. These things can absolutely co-exist.
This is why everyone needs to resist authoritarians, even people who privately assume they’ll be just fine.

I'm going to Jerry Jam (outdoor music festival) later this month and am considering a trip to Quebec just to buy the "good stuff" for my face, neck, and shoulders.

I can still hear someone from my childhood yelling, "If you need tinted goggles, you need tinted face."
Although, I did get an apocalyptic sunburn about 15 years ago, despite wearing sunscreen, a hat, long sleeves, and sitting under a giant lawn tent from 10-3, without a break.

AND remember that proximity to UV reflective surfaces such as water, white sand or snow can increase effective exposure by up to a factor of 2.
FURTHERMORE, some meds can cause heat intolerance or sun sensitivity, as explained in this article.

Tiny part of me, "You mean I could have maybe argued my way out of the planetary protection approval process for that project that was literally designed to crash into the moon?"

Fuzzy bird neighbour round up so far:
Common eiders ☑️
Pink-footed geese ☑️
Barnacle geese ☑️
Still on the look out for king eiders, and little auks, and I know of a couple of glaucous gull nests. Studiously avoiding the terns and skuas because they are tetchy bastards with very sharp faces.

But it also means you have money for a hotel in any of the places you have friends and family, or additional airfare, or splurge on a spa day with mom...
It just seemed like you had more to do elsewhere and not so much in Halifax.

I prefer 1 and B.
Stay home now. Save the money you would spend on kennel, etc for you to go on a future trip to see friends/ family, especially your friends & family. This way you and husband each get a turn sleeping diagonal in the bed, dogs are content, you get a nice visit, less stress.

Fun fact: @ryanestrada.com ‘s “Banned Book Club,” which I proudly publish, keeps being challenged in libraries for being “pornograhic.” There is zero sex or sexual suggestion in the title. The censors are just shrieking The Magic Word and hoping it gets them what they want. This is what they do.

I have reviewed some materials intended for younger/newer readers. It included excerpts from The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Poetic Edda, but it was clear there was an attempt to preserve the feel/style of the original work AND intentionally build vocabulary, grammar. This takes skill.

A homeless shelter wrote an amicus brief in the Grant’s Pass case.
They argued SCOTUS should let the city arrest the homeless because, and I am not shitting you, the ban on doing so meant less people were willing to abide by their “two church services a day and no sex” requirement to sleep inside.

For a long time, the last state didn't ban it until the 1920s, it was the norm that in many states non-citizens could vote so long as they'd been here a year and merely intended to become naturalized. When there were, for most of that time and most of the world, no limits on physically moving here.

Absolutely satisfying to get to talk to people - whatever form that takes - from knocking on doors to writing postcards.
That tiny bit of human connection might just be the nudge to get someone to vote in a down ballot race or special election.
