Nobody knows what political effect The Conviction will have. But there’s one argument I’m surprised I haven’t seen. Some low-information voters surely lean toward Trump because they think of him as a winner, an image he has cultivated all this life. Doesn’t this dent that image?

I heard a quote from a two-time Trump voter before this verdict who said: "He lost 62 court challenges yet he keeps talking about the last election. He keeps losing."

That's the most frustrating fact about Trump fans. And I think the ignorance is willful aT this point. The man couldn't sell steaks. To listen to him is too experience incoherence. 😔

I'm less concerned about dissuading folks who are already in the tank for Trump than I am about energizing the folks who threw Trump out in 2020. Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016, and that made him as much of a winner as those folks could want.

The fact that he had to cheat to win should dent his image as well. Many folks take a dim view of cheaters. Take the 2017 Houston Astros for example, I still have a very negative view of them, as do many baseball fans.

Only in the sense that you might see your abusive dad as the top dog. On some level, of course you know he’s awful — but you’ve been well trained to believe he’s always going to come out on top. That fiction of “dominance” is hard to shake.

That mattered in the start but now it's more like an abusive relationship. They've given Trump their self-worth and they can't just get it back anymore. They're essentially brainwashed. He's been losing for a while now. And we're much too deep into the relationship to just like choose a new father.

This was always wrong. They see him as someone who fights for them, against those who are working to change their world. Again, and as Trump said it himself, he could gun someone down on 5th Avenue and still people would vote for him in droves. This will be perceived as an attack on their guy.

They don't perceive his trials as actual adversarial proceedings that he could win or lose. They see it as like Rome persecuting Jesus. They're in a cult; things don't have to make sense.

Ugh. He not only lost the last election but dragged down the rest of the party losing seats in the senate and house. What a loser! In addition, how many times has he declared bankruptcy even having generational wealth? I’d call that a generational loser!

I think a lot of them see him as a “rebel“ that will “shake things up“ (both of which are kind of true, except in a bad way). They will just think this proves “the system“ is out to get him (which it is, except in a good way).

In Massachusetts, calling someone a real winner (or “winnah,”) was always sarcasm — maybe Trumpers can’t tell the difference? Their thought processes are mysterious.

Before drawing this conclusion, I'm holding out until his punishment is known. If it is less than prison, he can still spin it as a win.

When I heard the verdict one of my first thoughts was that Trump is 78 years old and being held responsible for his actions for the first time in his life. 70 million people, most of whom have no clue how our legal system works, will still vote for him, however.

Democrats worked since 2016 to make Trump a martyr. Martyrs were always popular throughout the history of humanity. Democrats succeeded. Now the fucker is UNBEATABLE, thanks to democrats. He'll win the presidency AGAIN even from a prison cell. Thanks, democrats.

Despite all his failed business ventures, the (false) image of the “businessman” vs. the “politician” and the promise of lower taxes for corporations and the 1% are the two overriding considerations for his supporters, whether they are low-information or not. Competency, ethics and morals be damned.

Nope.

You are making the presumption that that anyone who politically does not agree with you is less educated than you, or dumber.

You might consider the possibility that YOU are the less educated, or less smart one.
